auDA Elected Directors

Six candidates are up for four directorships.

It will be interesting to see the connections to the Victorian liberal party.

I'd also like to get a list of members to see how many auDA contractors and friends are voting.

It'd be nice to see who was rejected from being a candidate.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more discussion on the candidates. I was hoping to get some more details on the individuals, to help me choose who to vote for.
Who are people's top choices?

I wonder what's better...voting based on too little information to make an informed choice, or not voting at all?

Does anyone have the info on who is running? Sorry if I missed this somewhere but can’t seem to find anything.

auDA confirms board appointees
Dear Associate Members,

I would like to take this opportunity to announce the new board appointees following the completion of a selection and ballot process in accordance with the organisation’s charter.

auDA’s incumbent Chair and directors are set to complete their terms at the Annual General Meeting on 14 November 2019. The new board appointees will assume their roles on 15 November 2019.

The reconstituted auDA board will consist of an appointed chair, five appointed directors and three elected directors:

  • Alan Cameron AO, Chair
  • James Atkins - appointed Director
  • Kate Cornick – appointed Director
  • Peter Elford – appointed Director
  • Matthew Healy – appointed Director
  • Alice McCleary – appointed Director
  • Sandra Davey – Elected Director
  • Tania Fryer – Elected Director
  • Angelo Giuffrida – Elected Director

Confirmation of the appointments marks the culmination of a comprehensive program of reform undertaken by the incumbent board that has significantly increased auDA’s transparency and accountability.

Highlights of that transformation include the introduction of a new constitution, governance model and reporting framework, a new associate membership program and the implementation of new IT and security systems.

On behalf of the auDA Board and management team, I offer our congratulations to all successful candidates. It has been a privilege to serve on the auDA Board, and I am extremely proud of what we have achieved together as an organisation,” she said. “The Board acknowledges the Nomination Committee’s work to deliver such a comprehensive search and selection process.

Incoming Chair, Alan Cameron AO joins the auDA Board with extensive experience as a lawyer and company director, including as chair of the NSW Law Reform Commission and Property Exchange Australia Limited. He was previously chair of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.

“Suzanne and the Board have done an incredible job in ensuring auDA has the necessary policies and processes in place to ensure the .au domain space can be effectively administered and governed,” he said. “I look forward to working with the new directors and management team to continue this legacy of transparency and accountability for the benefit of all stakeholders across the .au domain space.” said Mr Cameron.

Further information on the incoming Board will be published on the auDA website.

Yours sincerely,

Suzanne Ewart
Chair, .au Domain Administration Ltd

I have posed the question to auDA.
Only serves to cut members’ (already limited) voice by 25%. Poor form not to answer the obvious question before it had to be asked.

No answer yet from auDA. Perhaps they have other things to deal with.

Interesting to see DomainPulse pick up a story about the shortfall of directors, the supposed veto of a first-choice Chair and shocking allegations of financial misconduct by outgoing auDA Directors. Unfortunately, the incoming crew are at great risk of being smeared by the unsavoury behaviours of their predecessors: it is becoming increasingly difficult to see a "clean break" between auDA 2.0 and 2.1.

Lets rewind 18 months to when I was publicly pilloried and defamed with the full knowledge of the auDA Board while not spending a cent more than I was budgeted to. "Report to Victorian Police", they screamed. Well, the current accusations against outgoing Directors are far, far worse, implying grotesque largesse and wanton disregard for the organisation and members. I cant comment on the veracity of the claims, but they are certainly suspiciously detailed and specific.

And a special note - I had heard of the abuse by auDA Directors of an Australian Government official while overseas at ICANN - from third parties based overseas. Yes, this I am much sure of because it was confirmed independently by foreign stakeholders who must be shaking their heads and wondering what the heck is going on in Australia. Disgraceful behaviour.
Never mind Victorian police, I suspect the AFP would be very interested in incidents of assault on, and threats against, an Australian Govt official. These are Commonwealth crimes that they take very seriously.

Perhaps Alan Cameron can investigate the shenanigans at the last auDA AGM where the foreign employees of an auDA contractor outnumbered Australian voters and their single email address to which individual voting links were sent.

I wonder if Ventraip will get a bigger slice of the marketing slush fund.

Just by way of update:
I received a polite reply from auDA staff acknowledging the required composition of the Board.

But they also noted that the Constitution only permits the Board to appoint a person as an Elected Director if a majority of votes in the ballot of Associate Members is in favour of that person. So three people received more votes against their election than for. The Board can’t appoint a Director not approved by the Nom Com and so this will become a process issue for the incoming Board to address.

This doesn't seem to be getting much traction elsewhere? Seems surprising given the strength and specificity of the allegations. No other sites seem to have picked up this news, especially as it applies to AuDA members? Extraordinary.
