I get the gist of it all, but not sure where the $12 comes into it? Or how it has caused so much grief.

Sounds like the $12 is the filing fee the claimant paid, to lodge his grievance with Indian Consumer Affairs, giving him proof that legal proceedings had been commenced. GoDaddy vs Namecheap have handled the situation very differently.

Ah, I wondered if it referred to a domain registration, $12 to lockup so many domains ... wow crazy stuff
