Adsense not showing on a purchased domain?

Hey everyone,

Just thought I'd give you a heads up when buying an expired domain, that it could have in fact been banned by Adsense in the past.

I launched a new website recently and noticed that none of the Adsense units were working.

After thinking it was my wordpress theme breaking the javascript, i used the Adsense Troubleshooter
https://support.google.com/adsense/troubleshooter/2473099?rd=1 and got the email response below:

Hi Michael,

Thank you for contacting us.

It looks like ad serving was disabled to that site in 2007 due to a policy violation. However, I've checked your site and it looks compliant to me, so I've asked our policy specialist to perform a secondary review and, if possible, to re-enable ad serving that that URL.

I'll let you know when I hear back.

Thanks for your patience in the meantime.

Hi Spacey, that was my exact scenario!

Seems like once a domain has been blocked from Adsense, it is permanent - it was blocked 6 years ago. I'm hoping that they review the site like they said and whitelist it

A little background: I bought the domain last year based on it's link profile and brandability. I have been developing a brand new website on it for the last couple of months and only removed the robots block on it on Sunday

I noticed that the ads werent displaying previously to that but i thought it was simply because i was blocking the spiders.

Unfortunately i don't think there is a way to tell if if a website has been blacklisted, but hopefully I can get it reinstated.

I'll keep you posted

It is quite tricky to see what has happened with a site in the past. The only way you can see if its been black listed is if you check on the site on Google product forums ect.

A few things you can do to monitor what happened on the site in the past:

1. Do a Google search for the site:www.website.com (See if any thing dodgy shows up if URLS are still indexed.

2. Check historic link profile views on Majestic / Open Site Explorer ect...

3. Search for the site in Google product forums ect. Some times if a URL has been hit people ask in the public product forums. Have seen this happen in the past.

4. Search for the site on Archive.org check out what the site owners have been up too.

A few top level ideas, but yeah I have purchased some domains in the past which have been hit with penalties ect. It is all part of the game.

Good tip Michael, only just got around to reading this post now but the other problem is if you are buying a domain on the drop you often don't have as much time as you need to do all these background checks properly.

This has lead to me buying more than a few pengiun/toxic domains as I rushed the research and took a gamble, luckily most of these mistakes only cost me $50-150 but still quite annoying when you get caught out.

Thanks Michael, this is more evidence that affirms how hard it is to get off Google blacklists. People have tried for years to recover with no luck.
Might be time to walk away and let your domain drop, as heart wrenching as that might be.

if i get the ORIGINAL post correct then walking away is not the best advice, he's got 2 years for google to take action and they just may , then he has a good domain name relative to whatever he wants to do.

if it was his own actual ACTIVE domain rather then a bought drop bow created that would be different and i may agree with you peter.

thats the killer sentence, "launched" meaning " i've done all the work and NOW i find out...." . Its a bugger, just like a plugin that doesn't work or conflicts with others, god knows i have been down that path many times.

i try to preempt disaster in my devs but i still can't see the future.

there is always something that you never came across before !!
