4kTV

I own this domain in .com.au, and I've been trying to sell it to some of the major TV manufacturers in AU but get no response. They seem quite happy to spend lots on adwords, yet see no value in own the domain. Perhaps I'm just no getting to the right people.
I figured this name had good value, since the 4kTV technology is still evolving and the majority of TV owners don't have one yet. I do believe it's the most common term used for the new generation of hi definition tv currently.
Am I wrong in seeing value in this domain. What would you do with it?
Thanks guys!

I had planned to develop the domain, but with my low level of webdesign experience, finding the time to create something half-decent is difficult.

Hi, new here :)

Have to agree. Had one of the 'majors' wanted it prior to the 4K tech coming out, they would have registered it. They know how soon the tech will be obsolete, so it's not in their interest to spend where they don't need to. Personally, I don't / wouldn't search for 4K - I'll go to (for example) the JB, Harvey Norman or whatever websites and search for what they have - that's just me though.

From personal experience, if you think you have a good name, just sit on it. 'Maybe' someone will contact you. At around 25 cents per week, it's not going to break you, but there comes a time when you just cut your loss, especially with tech names.

The problem is not many domainer just own one domain, they usually own hundreds, so it becomes thousands every year.

Takes money to make it though, right?. I mean, if you're going to whinge about what a domain is 'costing' you, it means you're not doing too well from what you already have, meaning you aren't good at what you do or not using what you have to it's full potential.

Not suggesting 'you' aren't good at what you do, I mean in general.

Thanks for the feedback Snoopy & Robert, I've taken that aboard!

I'm sure if that's always true... it seems the majority of people and companies do NOT have a clue about the value of domains. Evidence of this is all the good domains being dropped daily.

I'm a little surprised you see no value at all snoopy. I've seen the word 4kTV being used is current ads, and since most people do not yet have 4kTVs and the mass market is still emerging, I thought there would be value for at least a few more years.

There is no point "blaming the customer" for not buying. The fact is it is a bad a domain, look inwards at your own domain picking skills rather than thinking people should see it like you see it, otherwise you will waste a lot of money buying domains that there is no market for.

The aim is to acquire a domain that multiple people would want, you're trying to predict what *others* see value in, not trying to pick up domains that you personally like. If those people do not actually see value, then they are not wrong, you are wrong!

Snoopy is right on this imo @ttfan.

As an analogy, have a look at the WayBack Machine for 4G.com.au. Using your rationale, you would think that one of the major Telco's or phone retailers would have grabbed it and developed it. They didn't - and haven't.

Thanks guys, I'll continue to learn from my mistakes, and hopefully actually improve my picking skills. :(

Now back to work, to see if I can find a greater fool that will buy it off me. ;)

Don't be too fussed, most domainers lose early in the peace, consider who your market is with a domain name reg, cheers
