    Direct registrations are happening

Of course we'd all love that, but it's never going to happen. If we expect to be taken seriously we need to come up with something more palatable for all parties - including the ones who will ultimately be making the decisions.

    Direct registrations are happening

Rather than complain about auDA's finances what we should really be doing is getting ready for the next battle, i.e. how this whole thing is implemented. Ned sums it up well here: http://www.domainer.com.au/its-the-domain-economy-stupid/

    .AU Analogies

Not much point complaining about it now. Put your energy towards working out how you can benefit from the change.

    Direct registrations are happening

I'd be hugely surprised if there was an auction between existing owners. The NZ process was fairly straightforward. If one entity owned the matching co.nz and/or net.nz at the cut-off date then only that entity could register the .nz for the first couple of years. If two different entities...

    Direct registrations are happening

I'm on the record as saying I like the idea of shorter domains, but now that it's happening, I'm definitely feeling some concern on how it's going to be rolled out. I own the net.au version for most of my good domains, so hopefully that offers a little protection.

Just got the email from auDA... https://www.auda.org.au/news/auda-to-introduce-direct-registrations-in-au/

    April Fools Campaign Data

Nice one James. I ran two this year after the success of last year's. I ran one for my number plate site which managed reach of 24k on Facebook, and one for tradies which had reach of 43k. Here are the links if anyone's interested...

Quite an anomaly that one. Wonder what the story was?

auDA CEO departing after 16 years

16 years is a very long time as CEO of one organisation. The average CEO tenure in Australia is around 5 years. I wouldn't read into it too much.

    Hyphen domains died today...

Today's drops proved that hyphen domains are pretty much worthless. carinsurance.com.au would be a mid six-figure domain (maybe more?), however car-insurance.com.au couldn't even crack $1,000.

Agreed. I'd be hitting the delete button after reading the first line.

Google indexing HTTPS pages by default

I would say so. If I was to launch a new site, and it was one that I expected to do well, I'd go SSL from the outset.

Google indexing HTTPS pages by default

I've switched three of my existing websites over to https during the last couple of years. The change doesn't appear to have had any impact on my rankings, but it's difficult to judge with everything else going on affecting rankings. I more or less followed the MOZ tips posted above and had no...

    Domain Sales List 2016

I would've expected those prices a few years ago, but they seem a little high now. Very happy to see though.

    OMG now 100% Fairfax

They appear to be doing exactly that, with one domain at least. This dropped into my inbox this morning... http://www.insurancebusinessonline.com.au/news/new-provider-enters-key-market-211565.aspx

    OMG now 100% Fairfax

I advertised on their financialplanners.com.au website for two years. Didn't get a single lead! Worked well for them I guess, but advertisers stop paying when the results aren't there...

Who's is a decent Aust-based Host these days?

Agreed Don. Their support is very average.

Who's is a decent Aust-based Host these days?

I use Ventra, GD Webhosting and Aussie Host. All three are fairly good, although Aussie has its moments from time to time.
