Hi all,

My name is Joe and I've been lurking on these forums quite a lot lately so I thought I might as well sign up and join the party. My background is mainly in SEO but I also know a thing or two about web development/programming, lead generation and email marketing.

I started out registering some pretty dumb names in '05 but it wasn't until the end of '07 that I began taking it (a bit) seriously. I keep an eye on various drop auctions (.au and beyond) but have yet to take a meaningful plunge into this arena. I've recently brokered a couple of decent .com.au purchases and am currently researching the auDRP process for a client.

I've got somewhere in the vicinity of 200-300 names, mostly EM keyword .com and .com.au's with a few "brandables" but I wouldn't say I have any real premium domains. I've developed about 80-100 of these but after a few google slaps and hosting woes I find I'm losing the love for the "throw sh*t at a wall and see what sticks" approach. I make some ok money from my sites but since ~80% of the income comes from say 5% of the sites I'm moving towards a quality over quantity approach.

Cheers,
Joe

Hi Joe - and welcome. It's good to have lurkers come in from the cold. ;)

Are you able to share with us the domains you brokered? And which side of the auDRP are you on? Attack or defence?

Cheers, Ned

Welcome Joe, sounds like you're a seasoned player. Definitely agree quality over quantity is the way to go.

Hi Ned, probably best I don't name names just now. Both were bought for $2k-$3k which I thought was slightly steep but my client (end user) was stoked to get them quickly and, in their opinion, cheaply and so everyone was happy.

As for the auDRP, if it gets that far, I'll be on the complainant side of the fence. I'd rather settle it personally where both sides get an ok deal but at the end of the day I think my client has a pretty strong claim for the name. The only area I'm a little confused about is proving "bad faith" in reg/use as I'm not 100% sure what constitutes bad faith, and I was reading that a lack of good faith might be sufficient to imply bad faith. Back to the AUDA archives for me, I think.

Cheers,
Joe

Hi Joe,

Welcome to the forum! understand where you're coming from there but sometimes don't you find you have to throw it all at the wall to find the 5%?

That's kind of what I do - bang a bunch of sites up, do a little bit of work. Then focus almost exclusively on those that suddenly get traction. But for me, at least, it's often a surprise which are the 5% that do deliver.

Anyway welcome!
