YouTube Promo Video

Hello everyone, I've just started playing with YouTube to see what influence, if any, it has on driving direct and referral traffic.

I have a channel that gets hundreds of thousands of views yearly but doesn't generate many referrals.

But it is good for marketing - especially because many of the videos end up on various blogs. For that reason I always include a quick splash page at the beginning with my URL as people don't always watch until the end.

You can embed a link in the your videos.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I'll have to find out to add a link. FPR did you find you got a boost in Google rankings when you started the channel?

Was already ranking #1 for the main terms so hard to gauge. On a side note, just partnered with Yahoo7 to provide them content - very interested to see the effects of that.

Personally I've found through very limited use that video can get ranked quite well in the regular google results even with with only moderate views. Definitely worth playing around with.

Btw: What do you mean by referral traffic? I don't think it is possible to have a link from a youtube video?

You can have a link in your profile, you can embed links in a Youtube video and also in the description.. see:

Thanks for the tip regarding adding a link in the description. Was very easy to do, just type the full URL into the description. Gives me a nice link right under the video - awesome!

Rumour has it that you can buy views, subscribers & comments pretty cheaply as well

Leon Hill from uSocial.net has been stirring the pot for over a year now, selling fans and followers - his press release system is reasonably good for getting a quick backlink or 10,000 if you have something worth repeating.
