Questions for CMWG

Since there are some CMWG members here I thought I might pose some questions.

Personally I think auDA are sapping credibility from the CMWG because the board has already influenced the CMWG's vote. The CMWG will never be able to say "well the members voted for it" when the new membership base are not genuine members. The allegations of election rigging are going to go on for years if the 900+ new members are allowed to influence the vote.

I think the CMWG should be investigating whether these 900+ members are "above board". It is their vote and their credibility that auDA is playing with.

Issues they should be looking at in my view,

e.g.
  • Do these members know anything about auDA and why did they decide to join? Did auDA contact all of these members?
  • Were membership payments made "in bulk"?
  • Did these members join in a manner which was constitutional and in line with published procedure/policy?
  • Were inducements offered to join auDA by auDA or 3rd parties?
Please post any questions you have, given the CMWG gave inappropriate notice for the last meeting (6 days) and got a very poor turnout I think the CMWG should be looking for further feedback from a greater number of members.

And;
  • Should foreigners who are also supply side employees (now possibly the largest group of members) be able to vote? (can anyone see any issues with this?).

I think they are not genuine "stakeholders". A major issue with this is foreign interference/capture in my view.

Certainly Not in accordance to: Here

Recommendation 11 of the Review, released in April 2018, stated:
  • That auDA diversify its membership base in the short-term with a focus on extending membership to stakeholders that are underrepresented.

How can a Registry Operator and Registrars be underrepresented? They are already Members!

Afilias Australia Pty Ltd Supply
VentraIP Group (Australia) Pty Ltd Supply
Melbourne IT Ltd (Arq Group) Supply
WEB ADDRESS REGISTRATION PTY LTD (crazy Domains, Dreamscape) Supply

auDA CEO, Cameron Boardman, said the positive response from Ventra IP, Arq Group, Dreamscape Networks and Afilias, other organisations and individuals had seen the surge in membership.

Perhaps dntrade members Cheyne and Angelo Giuffrida can shed some light on these questions and perhaps also tell us how many memberships VentraIP, it’s employees and its directors now control?

it all makes the following look absolutely ridiculous -

Membership Benefits
auDA members are entitled to a number of benefits, which include:
  • a voice in the future of .au
Bullshit - they undermine or capture every committee and Panel established
  • invitations to special auDA networking events, conferences and meetings
In 2 years when has auDA organised a Domain Registration Market Event or Conference to promote the .au Market [includes Secondary Markets]? Perhaps networking events include - 2 SGM's and 2 AGM's
  • a monthly members' newsletter, which members may advertise their internet or domain name related event to the auDA membership
Can we advertise our own events via the Newsletter?
  • vote for board members at the AGM
Why Bother - Elected Directors just get Bullied off and replaced by Board appointed Directors. Regardless, its up to 955 foreign employees of 4 registrars and a registry to choose the Board NOW.
  • subscription to the members' mailing list, keeping you updated with auDA and related stakeholder activities.
One way communication with members isn't engagement.
