We have supported the idea that domain names influence search engine performance for some time now – the research is there.

New top-level domains create a more meaningful and memorable experience for Internet users. Having a unique and relevant URL that matches your brand name or product is priceless. The name says it all. The best way to get discovered online is to use a domain name that aligns with your purpose and makes it easier for people to find you.

The top apps on the market are already using the .app domain as the home for their application on the web. There are more than 1.5 million app publishers between Google Play, App Store, and Amazon AppStore, which means there are 1.5 million brands competing for the perfect representation of their brand with the .app domain (Source: App Annie).

Basically this linkedin author has taken a statement by Google than means very little and tried to drum it up into something it is not.

Yes a .app domain could help an app get discovered. Putting a sign around your neck and walking around the streets could also help an app get discovered. Funny how these registrar related people will latch on or skew just about anything.

btw: despite this person claiming to be in "content marketing", they actually work for 101domain, they are one of the worst for telling porky pies about new tlds,

However new data via the DNA case study show that New Domains were outperforming legacy domain extensions such as .COM and .ORG for brands lacking in domain authority.

What this means is that new TLD websites without a lot of inbound links, social media presence, etc. essentially with less domain authority, were performing well in organic ranking due to having keywords in the URL.

The case study found that .COMs had to fight much harder for presence on the first page and ranking for keywords, requiring an average domain authority of 33 for visibility, while new gTLDs needed a much lower average domain authority of only 4 to rank, because of other factors such as having keywords in the domain name and domain ending.

The study is flawed as it claims tlds have a benefit. Google has stated they do not. What they are possibly seeing is a slight EMD benefit which has nothing to do with extension.

Or you could post links to 12 yo conspiracy articles that bear no relevance to the initial premise of this thread. TLDs do not help rankings. I thought SEOS were meant to be the snake oil salesmen.
