Past owner of domain asking for email access?

Hi All,
We acquired a generic domain name from a broker a few months ago, pretty decent domain.
The prior owner who is also in our industry reached out to me and asked if we could set up them a email forward as they had some personal emails and personal accounts on sites used for that email, I have met this person before and he said he realised he didn't own the domain anymore as he let it expire a few years ago when he was on holidays, he has a new business and just wanted the info/ accounts associated.
I did the right thing and said I can set it up for a month so he can change his information ect, didn't want to cause any issues with the individual.
Anyone had something similar like this happen in the past? I know a level of risk is associated with it.

Sounds ok as long as it ends with that.

I have bought a domain once and given the seller email redirection for a year, it did effect the ease of parking it but that was about it.

Have done this for a previous domain owner recently, no issues so far. Keep an eye on the mailbox to ensure nothing suss is going on .

Had a similar thing where a PR company created material using the wrong domain and asked if we could supply the email addresses for the duration of a campaign. We all make mistakes, so no problem.
I think the risk works both ways as you would have access to all the incoming email - not the most enviable position for the other party, I'm sure.

That would but nice, I do not expect anything.
Never had this happen before though I would expect it would be something that happens a bit.

It is usually part of a sale agreement, I haven't heard of it is quite this situation.

i've done this both sides of the fence, once when i sold and once when i purchased.
i think you putting a time frame on it is good.
i also think HELPING someone is always a good thing.
