wordpress auto update

can anyone answer this? i have wordpress set to auto update, but some don't ? UNTIL i vist the front end of the site and then BAM i get an email saying it just updated?
it is 100% that shortly after i visit the homepage this will happen, i'm NOT talking admin.

do i have a setting wrong? i want it to update when an update is available

note: this is for my tinyyyyyyyyyyyy sites that i rarely go to.

That's by design I think. There's a pixel somewhere that triggers an update check. If the pixel is not accessed it doesn't check, and therefore doesn't update.

hmmm, would that defeat the purpose of having it set to hinder hack attacks on little used website?
i know you'd say, well if it doesn't get 1 visit a month ........who cares !!
you are right, but i do wp websites and just use the backend for stuff so never visit the front.

Maybe you could set up a cron job check for updates every week.

yeh, i'm moving towards total IWP so this is just a minor hiccup, but thought i'd ask.
