New Domain vs Previous Owners Content

Hi,
I've recently picked up a .com.au domain of an expired list, and one which i liked for its forum potential in the xtreme sport industry.
After securing the domain, I researched it a little bit more and found it had been developed previously for this industry, and after checking via web archive I found its website was active as recently as March 2013.

  1. At what point if any does previous content become a conflict issue for the new owner.??
  2. Has anyone else come across this and how did you deal with it. ??

If it's generic and not trademarked in the area you're wanting to use it then there shouldn't be any problems.

Very generic, and not trademarked from what I've seen, but its the content which is on the old website which is in question.
I'd like to develop this site and will likely enter similar content, has anyone bought a domain and developed it even though the previous owners had, but let it go. ??

As long as you're not copying the content it's fine. Content on a narrow generic term is likely to be similar. No problem with that.

similar content,
there's a lot of subjects where content has no choice but to be the same eg: who invented the first snowboard, ropeless climbing techniques etc so thats fine IMO.
