Domain profit story

Thought I'd share this as it goes to show a premium domain in the right hands can go pretty far.

A few years back when I first joined dntrade an opportunity arose to purchase a premium 1 word tradie domain. I purchased the domain for low $xx,xxx and on sold it later that day to make $xxxx.

The domain was left dormant while the user decided how to monetise it. We spoke the other day and he ended up selling a training course through the site which had 40 subscribers in its first run at $4800 a spot.

So while the domain was pricey, it was extremely memorable and helped cement the owners position as the market leader in his industry. He is currently developing the second course and additional platform.

On that note, always a good idea to run your premiums past me, although I don't normally pay as much for domains now, I can cast a wide net with different industries.

Jeez I thought that would have at least got a like.
I've had this post sitting in my open tabs since the weekend! :p

Great story. I've love to know what the domain was. Trade related stuff is right up my alley.

I think this is the biggest benefit of EMDs today. They may have lost the big SEO boost, but they definitely can give a credibility boost.

I'd bet that a lot of people visiting Nuts.com.au think it's the market leader due to the name. It's not by a long way, but it's all about the domain.

i agree, the story just shows you how a smart developed domain pays for itself very quickly, then 2 things happen:
1) its worth outweighs what ANYONE would pay for it
2) why bother selling it !

I totally agree. Though I disagree with the rankings side, they still rank very well as long as the work is put in. :)
