So who is gonna get this $11,000 bargain ??
~
Renewal drops to a poultry $110 a year after
~
Good example of why the Gtlds are gonna fail
~
Sorry sponsor but .........

A silly name and a ridiculous price tag... I agree. I can't see any relation to Gtlds failing though... there are plenty of stupid .com name with ridiculous price tags...are they examples of .com failing?

Also a lot of "premium" nGTLDs aren't available for reg fee and reserved with high price tags, so it's hard to compare apples and apples. Will be interesting to see how things out over time.

.com's do not cost more than a hundred a year to register
Neither do most of the nGTLDs... so while I'm with you and also expect .mom is going to fail, it's not really relevant to all the other nGtlds. I expect many will fail, but I also expect some specific ones, those that are logical and make sens, can do very well.

For me the sticking point is that I can register spacey.mom for $39.99 and yet after paying $11,000 for something like mum.mom I am then slugged with $110 per year, it comes across as really greedy imo. That is why many will fail, the price point to try something different is too high

I'd say they've lost out on all counts

-The $110 renewal is too high
-The initial price is too high
-The standard $39.99 renewal is also too high
-The extension is crap

It is not going to be difficult to find a *mom.com so why bother with an alt extension? Think the best chance they have is pricing it under $1.

The thing with these new GTLD's is you don't know about their price structure, what's to say they might push up yearly renewal fees substantially, or make a standard renewal fee, a premium one, the year following..
It's what makes a .com/ .com.au a safer investment for domainers.
