.AU Analogies

The board could change it's mind as easily as it changes CEO or Chairman.

They want you to think it's done and dusted.

I don't think the board is going to lose face by doing that. Some of those guy would probably be risking their jobs changing their mind also.

It's "those guys" jobs that are being put first in front of Australia's internet domain system which is the very problem we are facing.

the problem is we are dealing mostly with men, and they find it the hardest to admit they were/are wrong.

"prepare for next battle" , basically sums it up and being an auda member would be a good first

step for everyone who is commenting or viewing these threads, its just $22 ( +$22 your first

year ) BUTTTTTTTTT membership where you would be eligable to vote ends in a month or so ( if

someone can clarify the date please)

and not just you, people/clients you have with websites, inform people.

everyone here knows 6 people with websites they should be concerned about, thats a lot of people and enough to put forward our case to and get some votes for demand class boards.

+ it would be great to have someone here put their hand up and run for the board, i would but presently i am long term sick and am restricted to home for the next 6 months.

someone that can see both sides clearly and still feels its just not needed, otherwise we could easily end up with no one representing us, so if simon goes because of not getting the votes and you know supply class advocates will be preparing their nominees and put the power of their mailing lists behind it to make sure they have a full board for their point of view.

so we have under 1 month.

I'd be happy to take out auda membership, but it would be nice to know if this would actually make difference. The question is CAN we actually make a difference by having more auda members, or will the board be oblivious to any opposition, and do what they want to do anyway?
Battles are worth fighting if there is a reasonable chance of winning, or at least influencing the outcome.

Which means their wallet. Which in turn means they're not the right people to be making the decisions.

If you took out all the people who did not have a financial interest then I'm not sure there would be any board. Domainers will largely be against it because it lowers than value of .com.au domains and/or increases holding costs depends on what actions the domainer takes. Registries, registrars and Auda obviously have a lot to gain.

I think though there are some who are so conflicted that they shouldn't be on the board though. Some that would obviously only ever vote in one particular way because of the potential gain to them.

as snoopy says "conflict of interest" is the call sound for membership to an auda board it would seem, its there so the only way to play the game is to BE IN the game.
saying why join if you can't make a different is a silly thing to say, not joining will ensure that the status quo continues.
countries have been bought down by the power of membership, poland solidarity, Egyptian protests, indonesia, and recently the hong kong umbrella movement to name a few, all persistant but as others have said " get organised" , well membership means your scrappy $22 gets a vote, a very cheap price to protect your portfolio.
$22 = 5 coffees, 2 minutes with a lawyer, 1/10th of a phone call working out why someone else is trying to get your premium domain etcccccccccc

or stick your head in the sand and really do nothing, then complain about it later.

I think he meant, members didn't vote on the changes, a few directors did.

Being a member enables you to vote for the demand class directors.

Speaking of which, I'd like to know how each of the demand class directors did vote on the direct registration issue.

ohh, ok, well that is correct just like we don't pick out prime minister !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
but if we put in a prime minister and they don't hold up their promises then as a voter you have the power to help get rid of them/party for p*ssing you off.
not voting just means everyone whinges about a result they didn't play some sort of part in.
thats all we can do but its a start, then what we NEEDDDDD is communication with board members OTHER then just 5 minutes before each election which really bugs me.
board members coming on here and saying "vote" for me, then you never here from them again NOR do they want any followup discussion , its "i'm going to do this and this and this.....BYE" end of story.

I wonder if the whole "people should vote" would have had any effect. A supply side board members looks to get voted in with about 15-20 votes, that would just be other registrars mainly. Of the supply side board members who would not vote for .au? Even if all the demand side board members were domainers it would probably still get through, just need the chair or 1 demand side person to vote for it.

Speaking of which, I'd like to know how each of the demand class directors did vote on the direct registration issue.

Great question, if people are voting in board members they should know that persons position.

coopers: i think we can all know you are active and always have been...... to the point of feeling no need to mention that fact, a trait others should note especially the wanna be directors.
tim

Are you a Board member Cooper Mills DL?
yes and always available to talk to any DNT and auDA members. In fact since the decision I have spent hours talking to different DNT Members, there are some really smart people on this forum.

I like the fact that people are talking about direct registrations, I'd like to see everyone here get together a plan on what they think would be the best method of implementation - that way DNT members could make a solid submission to any Implementation Panel / Committee.

So far in my discussions with domainers (and some Registrars), almost everyone has supported a variation of the UK model, which is basically .com.au priority.

Becoming an auDA member is good, get involved in the debate, attend functions and have your say.

Yes @ttfan I would definitely recommend auDA membership.

There was a time when I had 0 .au domains, they were all .com's. I recommended my employers at the time get them, but it wasn't until .au was opened up that I started also investing in .au. Those like @Cooper Mills DomainLawyer helped drive that change, so if you want to help impact change, the more involved you are the better.

The one thing we have in common is that we're passionate about domains, we know as much, if not more, than any other group on the broader topic of Aussie domains - it's the reason I love DNT. However, it's important to remember that groups like ACCAN, Electronic Frontiers and others are Demand Class members and were also on the Names Panel. It's not as simple as registrars and resellers pushing for change, there are other people at the table. Not all of them are active here, but there are other people that support direct au. It's been on the agenda for nearly 10 years now, as they say the only constant is change.

I reckon if you're passionate about it, try and get involved at some level and have your say.

Join for the $22 now or your vote will not even count at the next election. It will not meet the often changing auda deadlines

The Department of Communications is in charge of the Australian domain name system, not Auda, Not AusRegistry and not Registrars.

If you really want to do something call the Ministers offices and email them repeatedly. You will not be the first this week. They are concerned about their own domain names apparently and many Ministers and people are contacting them to complain they knew nothing about the changes or the effect it will have!

Pretty stupid and biased to make announcements of a change when no implementation plan has been done and not all 3 million registrants even had notice of it.
The survey was rigged
Every domain name owner should have been emailed by Auda to vote and do a proper survey
