I am going to sell my first AU domain... The buyer asking me some sort of guarantee, saying that i will transfer the domain after the payment withing x number of days...

Does any one have a template letter?

or how do i do that? I heard drop.com.au do such a service, but do they get a commission?

thanks

Don't know of anything thats freely available, although I have seen one professionallu done for a large sale.

You could use an escrow service, but what sort of money are we talking? If it's $xxx or low $x,xxx hardly seems worth it.

Drop have an automated Change of Registrant (COR) process that costs $49.95. It doesn't offer any assurance regarding payment for the actual sale.

DDNS do COR for $120~ and they will 'act as' an escrow agent (or atleast they used to) and hold the money until transfers are completed... however their systems are manual, requires paperwork and takes a while..

I just issue an invoice that clearly outlines what the seller is getting. You can put on the invoice that the domain will be transferred in x number of days.

Most people seem okay with that and I used it for a $9k sale without any problems.

easiest thing to do might be this

1. issue them a Tax invoice

date
Your name
your abn
address
phone

their name
their abn if they have one

for:

Sale and transfer of domain name xxx.com.au

Payment via direct deposit to:

YOUR BANK DETAILS

Sale is void if payment is not received within 3 calender days from invoice

2. Once they pay give them the domain password / key. You can get this by going to http://www.ausregistry.com.au/password.php

They can then use their own registrar to do the transfer once they have the key.

Also you can use drop.com.au or www.ventraip.com.au to help you with the transfer if you have any problems.

---------------

Dont waste your money and time using escrow.com They take a long time, are in USD only, charge a lot for their service and as long as you followed the above steps all should be safe.

What I have done in the past is just write up a template and put the conditions of the sale and information regarding the sale as requested usually by the buyer of the sale, then set the terms up in ESCROW.

I agree with DomainNames; Escrow.com is just not viable for small Aussie purchases.

If the sale is only low $XXXX, and there is a potential problem with trust or language or guarantees, why don't you use a local 3rd party to help you out? They can act as a middle man for you both. Your buyer might feel more comfortable with that.

Where are you based? Do you know where your purchaser is located?

i recently lost a sale because i asked for $250 up front to which i stated included the transfer fee at drop ....... must be a better way ?

in this industry trust is paramount but perhaps the buyer was unaware of transfer fee ?

I sold my .com.au on Netfleet. When the buyer found out he had to pay $220 for the transfer fee, he disappeared.
I still had to pay Netfleet.

Hi onedot,

I'm confused. Where do you get the figure $220 from to do a Change of Registrant? It is $49 through Drop - or $39 through Ventra. This gives the buyer a further 2 years registration as well.

It has never ever been an issue for me, or other domainers that I know.

If a seller is reneging, put a ticket into Netfleet and ask for their assistance. Maybe it is just a simple misunderstanding that can easily be fixed.

$220 was the transfer fee charged by my Registrar "name.com.au".

To the best of my knowledge, Name.com.au is not a Registrar. Here is a list:

http://www.auda.org.au/registrars/registrar-list/

They are a reseller for a Registrar - and looking at their physical address, it is the same as Domain Central (who is a Registrar). They are using their system.

COR prices are not regulated. You have to read forums like this to find out what is what!

The best prices out there are VentraIP ($39.95), and Drop ($49.95).

You obviously weren't aware, and got charged far too much.

What's your online reputation like?
Maybe your good online social standing with history can act as reassurance? I know it has helped me trade a few names in the past..
