Media Ban

I think it is 24hrs before election day that the media ban in the federal election comes into place, possibly 48hrs? Now i am wondering if the same goes for the state elections? Because if that is the case the Greens well and truly broke the rules ........ i was still getting ads to vote for them up to 9 o'clock last night. What system was tracking me to think i would support them was completely wrong. But to be running the ads even after the election ??

Spacey, I might be wrong, but I think the "blackout period" applies to electronic broadcast media only. But Erhan would know the exact rules.

Good summation by ACMA here (bolding is mine): http://www.acma.gov.au/theACMA/Abou...political-matter-tv-content-regulation-i-acma

Blackout period for election advertising

Clause 3A of Schedule 2 to the Broadcasting Services Act requires that a broadcaster must not broadcast an election advertisement from the end of the Wednesday before the polling day until the close of the poll on polling day, where an election is to be held in an area which relates to a licence area, or an area where a broadcast can normally be received. This only applies for elections to a Parliament.

The election advertising blackout only applies to broadcasters. It does not include online services and print media.

Electronic messages

The Spam Act 2003 prohibits the sending of ‘unsolicited commercial electronic messages’, including email, short message service (SMS) and multimedia messaging service (MMS) messages.

Electronic messages authorised by certain bodies are exempted from this prohibition. The exemptions include messages authorised by:

a government body

a registered political party

a religious organisation

a charity or charitable institution.

unfortunately in my electorate i didn't have a representative for the "star trek federation of planets" otherwise i would have voted for them.

normally ( since i can remember ) the greens state where thier preferences will go, but this time they didn't.

my electorate also change the GRID, so people were moved into different electorates !

what pisses me off is some of liberals ideas were good, some of labours ideas were good, but they also had sh*t ideas, there seems to be a total lack of good candidates these days.

my present and now re elected guy is a TOTAL wanker, egotist, and pretends to be an "all smiles" guy but he is a lier.

i think our system has gotten to the stage where we all vote for the person we hate least......... and thats sad

WHY can not some one just come out and say, " you know what...... we are going to do/change this and this but actually the other parties idea about THAT is pretty damn good "

and bring it all together? win win ?

and then the hypocrits get into power and say " we have to stop duopolies in business " when they themselves are !!!!

Yeah if its digital media they can get away with it. I remember last Federal election they had the media ban on TV ads, so parties moved all their ad spend in the last 48 hours to YouTube and Pre-Roll video like BrightRoll LOL...Seems harder to police those types of ads. Also they can throw up a viral style site to gain quick traction and act like a 3rd party made it.

yeh, i was getting the political ads on youtube FULL ON.

friday funny is seeing all the parties that preach " save the environment" and thats not just the greens, throwing all their "how to vote" sheets in the bins at the end of the day !!!!

our local liberal had cars towing billboards ALL DAY around the streets !!! towed by old hi ace vans.

our local labour member cares sooooooooooo much for the community that his website last posted om May 10th 2012 !

another candidate didn't even bother listing himself on the parties website, no profile, no purpose, no policies !!!

"what would vladimir poutine do " ?
