When a Registrar doesn't drop a domain properly

Hey guys,

Has anyone experienced a situation where you're watching a domain soon to be drop and then it disappear because the registrar hasn't released it properly?

Domain is now in limbo, showing as available but can't be registered by any of the registrars I've contacted.

I've put a complaint to ICANN, but they were more concerns of misuse of domains, so never heard back form them

What can I do?

Usually if WHOIS is showing it as available then it'll be available, unless of course it is a reserved domain then it'll most likely still show as available in WHOIS but the registry won't let you register it.

If we're accredited for the extension you're after I can check the registry for you and give you an exact reason for it not being available?

Update: Because of this thread, I went searching and have finally gotten to the bottom of this, after the domain name dropped over 2 years ago!

The domain name in question, which was previously registered is 色々.com (xn--u6jy59v.com)
It had a disallowed code point 々

So it turns out I was wrong, the previous registrar didn't drop it incorrectly, they had to let it drop and it can't be registered again because of the disallowed character.

case closed!
