Scraped content

A couple of sites I manage have recently had rank drops for key terms.

One thing I noticd is

Site A. Parts of content have been scraped and thrown into text with other spam content.

They also appear to have included some links. Or at least a few weeks ago I could find them via OSE. Other trackers don't seem to be reporting them.

Site B.

Sites, mostly asian in appearence have copied the copy that I have created 100%

I am wondering - should we re-write all content ?
On site B. Should I remove a .com 301 to the .com.au ?

I don't know if that is how they found it. Or if that is even plausable explanation...

If your sites have seen a drop between 17-22 May it is probably a direct result of Panda 4.0, it would not be any thing to do around external scrapers.

You need to focus on doing analysis for the sites which have noted the drop in traffic.

Look at the internal technical structure, look at the content set up, look at on page elements so many things to think about.

I will update with the dates. But I'm pretty sure it was pre and post these dates, James.

Yea. I know elbranch. Maybe I'm clutching at straws here. I'm just not used to this and it's really annoying me.

Updating. Site A has actually copied some text from another site without tell me. Dates seem to reflect last Panda update [sad face]

How do you counter scrapers though?

DCMA complaint or if they link to your disavow it.

Usually if your content is indexed first and your site is an authority website, then a scraper picks up your content you have nothing to worry about as Google knows the first version of indexed content.

Issues happen when scrapers start to out rank your own content, then you know you have a problem and try and put in a DCMA complaint with Google.

Is it quicker for Dcma with Google or the web host ?

I would say it depends on the web host. Are we talking a big company or a mom and pop? Google will probably not respond/resolve right away unless it's phishing or something along those kinds of lines... Just my guess!
