Hi all,

I made my first post the other day about the $1 net.au registrations without even introducing myself, so I apologise if anyone wondered who I was!

I've been running my own online businesses (eCommerce and professional services mainly) in the UK, US, Canada & Australia for the last 15 years, many of which are now sold or closed.

During that time I developed an {interest in|love for|addiction to} domain names. I'm not sure what it is about domain names that I love so much; perhaps it's the opportunities they represent, or just that they're soooo cheap to register, or that you used to be able to generate a net (passive) income just by registering a domain name, writing a couple of paragraphs and slapping an AdSense box on the page. Oh for the good ol' days, eh!?

I've never had sufficient disposable income to develop a huge portfolio of my own, but, I suppose I have at one time or another held about 100+ different domain names. Right now, I probably own about 30, but these are not for sale and are generally employed to make money including one, auappraisals.com.au, which offers domain name appraisals for .au domains and brokerage services, which I'd do all the time if I could...I love the work!

I use a manual valuation process based entirely on my experience and understanding of what I think a business would be willing to pay (the litmus test for any valuation). I've done this for a number of years, during which time I'd guess I have valued a few thousand domain names, and I have represented and advised some of Australia's best-known brands. Unfortunately, due to non-disclosure agreements, I can't tell you who they are, which is very, very frustrating!

Anyway, that's me in a nutshell. I look forward to spending whatever time I can on dntrade in the future.

Howdy Paul, first time i have heard of a strictly .com.au appraisal service, interesting, welcome

Don't forget .net.au (especially at the moment)! I specialise in .au domains because it's a smaller, more manageable market, and I think I have a better grasp of what's going on here than globally. But I have 'done' .com work, too.
