Damn, this was perceived in the industry as being a pretty good guest blogging resource site.

Another food source been cut off.

Certainly Ann Smarty has a lot of influence in SEO circles.

Strong warning signs from Google huh?

To be honest I was not a fan of My Blog Guest, most of the sites were low quality and had poor footprints.

I know many SEO's did rely on the service which was dangerous in my eyes.

Overall the action from Google was fairly harsh, and I do feel sorry for Ann Smarty as she seemed nice.

Fair comment James.

Yeah did not use the service myself, but did experiments to see how it worked.

The idea of having a plugin inside your WordPress site, so you can very quickly source new guest articles, was a neat idea.

However Matt Cutts has been giving warnings about Guest posting for the purpose of building links for some time now.

Like always, when people find a thing that works like guest posting, the usually flog it to death.

A lot of these legacy posts will be suffering from Hummingbird too, as they usually heavily focus on a singular keyword per post.

Still feel there is a place for quality guest posting. The emphasis on Quality.

Interesting developments.

Yes agree Peter, people do abuse things. I think MBG biggest down fall is their T&C every thing about do-follow only links ect. That is probably why Google hit.

Lots of people only think about the link .

Would it surprise some people to know that Google does already have a version of the algo without backlinks as a ranking factor?

Doubt they will implement it due to public uproar. But stranger things have happened. Like Hummingbirds Jedi mind tricks. Those are not the keywords you looking for.

When Cutts said he was going to go after guest posting a few months back I wondered if they'd go after MGB as that is their primary function lol.

I didn't use it, the content was never up to scratch imo. It's a bit of a joke really that Google can just knock off a business over night.

I used MGB for a bit a couple of years ago, but there didn't seem to be a big focus on quality so I stopped using them. I expecting Google to do something about it, but still feel sorry for them.

We are helping one brand whos old agency used it on around 200 blogs for one domain. Annoying removal and recon project but has to be done. They don't even rank on brand at the moment. Some were hit very hard.
