I did a complete redesign Tim. Hope this pleases you.

Friends again?

we were never not friends, i like people to challenge me as well ( HA i think i would win the "how to be slagged off award " )[ maybe i should do an ebook ? ] and dnt is a place to be challenged

i just had a quick look and it has FAR BETTER stickiness now

now thin in height the top nav, waste of space, then go get a logo not just TEXT, try fiverr ( you only have $5 to lose , make sure its horizontal )

keep pushing UP to the top, above the fold.

thin out the second nav, once again THIN out the heights and push up

i like the underline strips you have on the navs, when you thin out the navs you may need to thin them in relation to them

colours i feel are very conservative but i think it suits the domain name,i think a logo would RULE the colours and i think it just needs another "accent colour" just to give it a kick

i find this site expansive on picking colours

NOTE: the dfault is mono, but you can chooose 5 other types of colours so you could spend hours on this site

your ads are serving me up websites i have been to today, nothing to do with salaries ! if i am going to a site about salaries i don't want to see a "hostgator" advert" , i went to optus website today.... do i NOW want to see an optus ad? NO, would i click on it? NO, you might want to look at your choice of ad feeds

in closing the site looks much better.

Google aims to maximise their profit, if there was an ad that their system felt would make them more money off that pageview they would show it. Over time earnings from a site should go up as Google optimises the ads shown and advertisers who generate conversions from the site increase their bidding. Click through rates on banners are around 0.10%, seems you are just in the 999 this time Tim. Best to leave Adsense units as is and let Google optimise to increase their (and your) profits.

I agree on this. My page CTR is about 2% which is in the normal range I believe.

The new site looks good.

But Plum Super... You're playing with fire there given that there is an existing fund which goes by the name Plum.

Plum Super is another site I wacked the open source calculator onto.

The group your are talking about are actually not called Plum Super they are called PLUM FINANCIAL SERVICES LIMITED.

Their fund is registered as "Plum Superannuation Fund".

Is it really worth the risk?

This thread has developed into quite a useful case study especially for newbies like myself. Thanks for this info, how many unique visitors do you average per day?

no normal everyday person knows these things so 99% of visitors will be remarketed to, i think it just makes a site look like a parked site, CTR maybe 2% which will give you a few cents but if you had related affiliate banners and still had 2% CTR with a good conversion rate you would probably do better IMO.

i'd mix it up, split test, and see the results over 3 months i personally wouldn't rely on google to start feeding better more focused ads to your site, i think they will just keep feeding remarketing type ads but i would love to be proved wrong.

I always knew remarketing would be an issue with Google Adsense and I am always looking at new ways to monetise the site. I had looked at Affiliate Marketing a while back but was not overly confident with the quality for the subject matter.

Google takes 32% of the earnings from all clicks on the Adsense network (sometimes for bigger advertisers lower rates). They also have incredible amounts of data and the abilities to analyse this. If showing a remarketing banner is what Google decides to do there will be a reason for it, either the likely CTR of the banner is higher than the next banner that could go there or the advertiser is bidding more per click, or both. I am confident that Google are smart enough to maximise their earnings from every impression.

Ashman - check out Adsense experiments in your account and setup some experiments on each of your ad units if you want to test some different setups.

Just just noticed that feature about a week ago but haven't tried it yet.

i agree, but in the end its MY business, so you can take the easy road or the hard road i guess.

i prefer to be more in control because i believe in the long run the short term gains will lead to long term pain, meaning the value of your domain will go down and google will just DUMP YOU as quick as it found you.

i prefer to TRY to create a site that has SPECIFIC value to a visitor and i feel that can only be done "hands on"

more time consuming and if you find my sites you will find broken affiliate links which earn me no money:(

thankfully i have a few good ones to make up for it :)

bottom line for me is be in control and then its just your own fault or its your own WIN.
