$1.8 Billion?????

"The founder of carsales.com.au started as a "software guy" and now runs a company worth $1.8 billion, writes Christopher Niesche."

Surprised they didnt write how carsales.com.au tried to get carsales.com years ago and of carsales.com.au being branded as guilty of Reverse domain name hijacking.

CARSALES.COM / CARSALES.COM.AU http://www.wipo.int/amc/en/domains/decisions/html/2004/d2004-0047.html

In the Panel’s view the Complainant’s ( carsales.com.au) actions must have inevitably imposed burdens and costs upon the Respondent. The Panel is also concerned that abusive complaints risk diminishing the credibility of the entire UDRP process. The Panel finds reverse domain name hijacking.

8. Decision

The Panel dismisses the Complaint and declines to order a transfer of the domain name <carsales.com> as requested by the Complainant. The Panel also makes a finding of reverse domain name hijacking against the Complainant.

I'm not surprised at all. The general public couldn't give a toss about reverse domain hijacking.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, it's just the way it is.

Why would they mention that? The article has nothing to do with their domain acquisitions

Looks like they have since acquired carsales.com

Someone acquired in 2007 for $400,000. Was that them or did they purchase after 2007?

Hi do you have a link where is shows the $400k sale? Only carsales.com.au would pay that money.

The carsales.com / carsales.com.au dispute was a textbook case of "reverse domain hijacking".... by pissing of the first rightful owner with a fake complaint in the end cartsales.com.au and their lawyers got a bad repuation and lost a lot more $$$ to buy it.
