ZipHosting - Anyone else had problems with them?

Just wondering if I am having an unusually bad experience with Ziphosting or whether others have experienced the same?

I ordered the basic shared cpanel hosting package and it just seems terrible. First email says to use different (incorrect) DNS servers from the console, Fantastico doesn't seem to work properly, wrong file permissions so I cannot delete failed installations, slow support etc.

I have at least 10 other shared hosting accounts with various providers and this one is giving me by far the most problems.

What are other peoples experiences with Ziphosting?

Ziphosting/Netregistry's cPanel is a fairly new-ish offering I believe (Just last month?). They likely haven't bed it down as much as their normal Zeus clustered offering yet ...

In fact, their Knowledgebase hasn't been updated and still says that they don't offer cPanel.

Haven't had the opportunity to use their cPanel offering, but I haven't noticed any *major* issues with their normal (now rebranded "Cloud") offering...

I have most of my domains with them and I really like their domain system for the most part, so in this regard they are excellent.

I've also hosted websites before on their Zeus based servers (not cpanel based) and had multiple problems with the system, which I found to be far inferior to a cpanel/apache based system. Perhaps this was my lack of knowledge and more advanced requirements than the average basic user, but either way it was a lot of mucking around.

Zip Hosting as i'm sure you are aware is the "budget" brand of Netregistry, and uses the exact same backend systems as them. As for their cpanel servers on apache, they did not offer any at all, in any part of their business, until they took over another business (distribute.IT) which was in pretty bad shape at the time due to being hacked. Netregistry come in, saved the day so to speak, and helped out the customers. But with it they inherited a number of customers in their wholesale business who used cpanel and refused to move to Netregistry's other systems. So, contrary to their plans and preferences, they started offering cpanel to reseller customers. I haven't heard any feedback on the quality in either direction. These customers ended up under their tppwholesale brand.

The first I noticed them offering it to retail customers was a month or so ago as already noted, not sure what the motivation is rather than sticking with their main system. I do know they employ some absolute quality techs, especially some of the senior guys. On the other hand, if most of them are used to ZEUS not APACHE, then there may be some teething problems with these new servers.

Not sure if that helps one iota, but just a bit of background for you.

... umm no.

We had a cpanel hosting base from both Planet Domain (2007) and MD Webhosting (2009). The majority of DIT was Plesk, which we are slowly deprecating.

We have run Apache clusters for the last 3-4 years in our cloud solutions, it's simply a user requested switch from Zeus to Apache.

We introduced cpanel at the retail level recently and it's completely independent of any other hosting we do, the reason for the introduction was simply to service a segment of the market who are completely wedded to cpanel. Basically demand was there, we chose to service that. By and large most people want cpanel for the add-on domain feature.

Zeus is EOL. So it's being replaced by Litespeed.

Apologies Brett, and thanks for the response, didn't realise you were a member here. If you are the same Brett who was sorting out a lot of the stuff at the time when DIT went bad it was actually you I was refering to as one of the "absolute quality techs" I mentioned!

Looks like my knowledge was a bit lacking, and I was probably influenced by the OP's issues - hopefully you can contact him to help him get sorted out. Good to see you have more experience in apache/cpanel than I thought.

Main points still stand though... I do my domains through Zip Hosting and love the system, have hosted with you before on Zeus and hated both it and your control panel system for hosing. But I haven't used your Apache based servers. Hopefully you can provide some insight on the OP's queries so as to end the thread as a positive for your brand!
