Changes To AdWords Match Types

Hi guys,

Just curious to know if any domainers feel as though these changes to the Google AdWords match types will have an impact on domain valuation?

Will the AdWords Traffic Estimator still be an effective measurement tool?

Regarding domain values I don't think it will have much of an effect unless they start grouping data and not displaying typos etc, then it might skew things around a bit. I guess it could make endusers less aware of typos if they are targeted automatically.

Another money grab from Adwords advertisers. As for the KWT, I don't know whether it will make a difference. I shouldn't think so?

I don't know that it is really a money grab from advertisers, it is probably a win for advertisers who missed those terms, a win for google and a lose for the people who previously targeted those terms and now have more competition.

How can the king of the cynics not see this one.

It's a cash grab- their Broad Match was forever testing the limits of 'related' and now it seems the other types will do the same. Remember every Adwords search triggers an auction - the more people in it the better for them.

Personally, as someone who manages my own Adwords account on a daily basis, I think the loss of control is terrible. I also expect costs to soar :(

I'm with snoopy on this one. Google cash grab.

For my main client I had set up an EXTENSIVE misspelling advertising campaign that was netting them quite a volume of clicks for about 1/3 of market price. Now this campaign will be redundant.

I suppose it's just the natural course of things, what humans need to do in the beginning and are well paid for machines do in the end.

It can easily be turned off. Personally think the traffic quality is likely to be much the same so those who do nothing and haven't targeted typos will be better off I think.

Agreed. The behind the times competition will get a boost in their business and of course Google will get a boost in $$$.

If you've got a decent AdWords budget, give it a few more months.

From what I've seen, Google has been reshuffling it's accounts/sales teams for the last year, meaning some pretty poor support. But should start to see a more permanent and involved account manager now. Might help justify the spend a bit more...

When it comes to my main client we don't want Google helping the competition - they are behind the times - we are out in front without their help. So increased help from Google to AdWord users is a relative loss for us.

I cringe at the thought of more of the 1000 businesses in my industry aggressively competing via adwords. Last time I checked 1000 into 10 spots doesn't work out well for 990. And it's bad enough with 20. I see a profit margin race to the bottom just around the corner.

Of course Google would be salivating at the thought.

Nature of the beast.

Think you mean the other way round - I was claiming a cash grab, snoopy was saying it wasn't.

Agree with what both you and snoopy are saying about clients with rudimentary campaigns seeing a boost. But for those that have made efforts to build keywords and target bids etc it will be a loss in two ways:

1) lack of control. It may seem subtle but a lawyer in Sydney may want to pay more for a search 'Sydney lawyer' than 'Sydney lawyers' because the latter sounds more like a 'shopper'.

2) more impressions = more competition = higher CPC

Google is a for profit company, every thing they do in the end of the day has a goal of generating more money, its like what they are doing with Tru View, it is a real target for TV Money hehe =)
A good image I saw recently is "Matt Cutts" Master plan lol
