i had a meeting last week with the yellow pages about their SEO service, what i say now is true in my mind as its just based on what they told me.

i tried to upload their powerpoint speil here but it didn't work ! maybe as its 6 mg, any one wants it just PM me

i'm doing some research for a company that is doing adwords with yp and i think they are paying to much so i organised a meeting to hear the pitch and the prices, yp are now saying they are australias ONLY premier? adwords supplier which is a huge shift of focus on where they think their income is coming from in the future.

so the entry level deal i ws given was $320 setup and $750 + gst a month minimum 6 months, and they take 25% A MONTH FOR ADMIN !!! , but when i pushed him he straight away said he would drop it to 15%, no mention of being ale to give me a $75 or $100 adwords voucher like MOST adwords suppliers and if they are the ONLY PREMIER google adwords seller in oz.

they said i'd get @ 4-7% click to conversion rate, but my client is currently getting 0% conversion rate on an average of 300 click throughs a month.

YES, it all depends on product /website / cost of goods etc but i'm doign organic rankings for them and we are getting more success from that as we rank number 1 for the desired search terms.

whats my point ! well my point is i've never liked yp so i am bias but as usual they promise the world and don't deliver which was the reason to start the thread.

I think the yp have given up on print ( so they should) but it seems they have also given up on their own website ( so they should)

well thats my rant, any one add info as i'd love to know more as my client is looking to spend 8-15K a month and i just can't see the return with yp

We've tried YP online and see no value in it. Unfortunately for many small to medium sized operators with little Internet experience, they are conned by their savvy sales and marketing.

thanks billy01 and cyberclick.

i forgot to mention that back in 1999 i was still an active photographer and my listing for a house i haven't lived in since then is STILL on yp.com.au !

the books GONE and the website is F'd so lets jump into googles pouch and use the same old sales tactics until we die !

Oh the Fat Cats who are falling quicker than Mark McInnes can "deleted by Admin".

Billy01 - I have sent you a PM. This is the second post of yours that I've had to edit out an inappropriate expression about Mark M.

I'm not a wowser, and I enjoy a joke - but as a "publisher", I do have to be careful what is said. I don't want to be embroiled in any possible defamation action.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has seen businessname-yellowpages.com.au styled domains on the drop. I assume they use these domains to track PPC instead of sending them to the website of the actual business or in situations where they can't install tracking on the clients website for whatever reason.

25% management fee is a lot but at least they are disclosing it. Google made some changes that require resellers to give their customers a break down of costs but some don't and even more customers are unaware of that requirement.

If YP can successfully sell their PPC service with such a huge mark up, perhaps they're offering more than just PPC management. I don't think their clients would care what they charge provided they get a return.

It might be worth calling them and acting interested just to hear their pitch.

Guys you do need to be careful when referring to people to make sure that defamatory statements are not published - it is better to be safe than sorry

they didn't disclose the management fee i had to DRAG it out of them, as in my original post my client didn't know he was getting charged, he even said " ohh no they just do it because i'm in yp..." his words not mine

I'm not sure why business owners are convinced the YellowPages is their answer for online services such as websites and search marketing. Understandable, they need to make money and they definitely have the capital to enter the market - but in all honesty, each client that I have dealt with that has come from YP has been absolutely miserable about the results that they achieved (or lack thereof).
