Hi NetFleet - have you had a chance to finalise your August stats yet? Your graph etc is great.

Thanks.

The local market does really seem to be doing well. A client of mine passed these stats on to me.

If you have a look at http://www.ausregistry.com.au/reports/2009/PUBLIC-200908.pdf it says there were 564 registrant transfers in August - perhaps not all were sales, but a large majority would be.

Must be a lot of off-market or direct sales to combine with those of NetFleet, Domain Market Place and Fabulous. :)

It all augurs well.

I'd have to disagree with that statement Neddy. The majority of transfers we do as a registrar are non aftermarket related.

I think this can be backed up from last years stats (468).

What are the transfers you do then if they aren't sales?

Like Ned I assumed they would pretty much all be sales...

Change of legal ownership such as the sale of a business. There are many reasons.

Just recently I transferred a domain to someone else that wasn't a sale.

Yes but August 2007 shows 0 registrant transfers and domains were still changing hands through things like the sale of a business.

So this metric obviously reflects the transfers that have occurred since the rule change mid last year - and that change was brought in to allow sales...?

Well yes it would appear that they only started recording transfers at that time as a result of the policy change.. but that number still reflects all transfers regardless of the reason.

Pretty sure I recall auDA wanting to get an idea of how many domains were changing hands after the policy change.

Here are the first two reports after the rule change:

http://www.ausregistry.com.au/reports/2008/PUBLIC-200807.pdf
http://www.ausregistry.com.au/reports/2008/PUBLIC-200808.pdf

468 in the first month.

DMP, I'm sure you're right when you say there are a number of "change of business" related transfers, but surely there can't be hundreds in a month?

I think there may well be a bit of everything in the mix!

Certainly there must be plenty of private dealings - I'm sure we've all been contacted privately from time to time via WhoIs asking if we'll sell a particular domain!

Anyway, the positive out of it all is that there is activity. And activity breeds activity! It can only be good for everyone.

I can only speak from our experience. The bigger registrars (Melb IT and NR) would have a better idea.

But yeah it's good to see that there has been a significant increase. Judging by the quality of the names dropping via Domain8 on a daily basis theres plently of work to be done educating business owners!

Yes it's quite a surprise to see drops up by 30% on last year and nearly double what they were 2 years ago.

regos increased by 23%. However it's probably more illustrative to compare the dropped amount of domains against the registration figures for 2 years 1 month ago to get a rate of non-renewals....

Hi Ned,

We had 54 sales for a total of $56,575 in August.

Record for volume which is good to see. So far this month been a bit quiet though...
