Google PPC v's Everyone Else

Hi,

Everything I read about PPC marketing seems to be built around Google PPC and for good reason I am sure. Surely the other search engines (Yahoo, MSN, Bing etc) are able to offer reasonable results through their PPC options also?

Am I missing something, is Google the only one I should be using or are the other search engines also worth looking into?

I can see that the cost per click for my niche with Yahoo is a hell of a lot cheaper than Google....and at the end of the day if it supplies a lead...well it supplies a lead? I think...lol

If there are other options, which is best, which is worst...does anyone know?

Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Jason

Yes you have many other options yet what is good in the AU market apart from Google who has market share:

- Facebook Ads
- Adlux
- Yahoo

Let me know if you want to make contact with Adlux I am good friends with a few people working at the company.

You can use any of these mentioned above

- Facebook Ads
- Adlux
- Yahoo

plus Google

but don't forget that Google holds 85-89% of the whole search market in Australia ( if you are targeting Australia....)

I tried most of the above ...Google was the best for me. If you need any more info pls PM

Wouldn't be bother with anyone other than Google unless you have really big volumes/advertising on huge terms etc. Yahoo last time I looked wasn't well automated and when you add to that that small market share (and I think minimum monthly spends) it isn't worth bothering with.

Facebook would be worth looking at if if you the right kind of website that fits with their advertising system (which is the minority of sites in my view).

the reason is if you are looking for a cost effective change, then you can try other suppliers such as the ones I have listed in the first post.

Thing is due to Googles dominance in the AU market we see higher CPC's for various niches if you big on insurance terms for example you may want to look for an alternative traffic model.

It is not about been "bothered" to look at other options it is about been smart with your money. I mean most high level affiliates do not even bother with Google new, even Facebook is dried up in terms of traffic they have all moved onto the "next" traffic model.

If you value your SERPs rankings use Google - Google likes Google, Google doesn't like Yahoo, or Bing, or........... Google likes sites that use Google products, that puts money in Googles bank, that makes Google happy.

Not that I'd put it past them but do you have any evidence or is this just tinhat babble?

Joe - if I had evidence then the mystery of the Google Algorithm would no longer be a mystery. I based my comments on a fair bit of reading on the broader subject of Googles "interests" and how it is dealing with the likes of Facebook advertising, Microsofts 250mil per 1/4 loss on Bing in Europe alone over the past 18 months or so and why MS is willing to keep pouring it in, the +1 moves of recent times with the "stringent moral high ground" now apparently just a small deflection on a flat surface and so on.

Google is a money making advertising machine which happens also to be a search engine (great residence for an online advertising seller) that is continually under pressure to keep its shareholders happy. Google is about making money as it thinks it gives you the search result you wanted, in that order.

I fell foul of Google when I was green(er) behind the gills - now I am paying big time for it. The alternatives are way, way in the distance in not first place. Look at ALL of Googles Apps, the free ones (and the paid ones) like Analytics, Adsense, AdWords, Google Merchant, Blogger, Docs, Webmaster Tools and +1 for Ads - all are designed to steer the user to use more and more Google Advertising.and if Google was my business I would do exactly the same - it is $mart with a capital $.

I mentioned some parking sites as examples of why not to mess with the big G - I have 1200 sites at WhyPark - prior to Panda I was making a nice little earner for doing very little indeed. But alas, like just about all the others they use Chinese Authors and Yahoo ads - my traffic dropped off by 60-70% within 2 months of the Panda release and the earnings now would not buy a stamp to post this post - so how is WhyPark doing? ASK.com, as Google's largest ad farm has made drastic changes and "announcements" about its drive for quality content in it and 3 other major ad farm sites it owns - Google forgave them very quickly it seems. Whilst many have been beaten to a pulp Ask.com received the equivalent of Julia Gillard giving a naughty reporter a finger point and a stern word.

I have turned the full circle in some 2 years now, from being a proponent of alternatives to Google and spruking that they are not the be all and end all - I humbly eat my words. I should have listened back then to you Joe, and Snoopy and General and just about everyone else in this forum. But hey, they reckon the best way to learn something is to try it, stuff it up then do it right after that lesson.

As always - never short of a word (that's why I write a lot of my own stuff - when time permits:)

cheers,
Mike

p.s. short answer to your question ...... it is just tinhat babble :)

The problem is the other providers have minimal volume. They are "cheap" because for most advertisers the results are poor.

I mean most high level affiliates do not even bother with Google new, even Facebook is dried up in terms of traffic they have all moved onto the "next" traffic model.

Not sure why the focus on "high level affiliates", if people are buying traffic to send to affiliate programs that is a pretty ordinary strategy in my view and that would be why they can't turn a profit on Google traffic. They'll keep "moving on" forever because they are trying to compete on small commissions with the actual businesses/suppliers who are paying them.

Well I have decided to do a test and spend the same amount with the same adverts across all 'PPC' options and monitor which gives me the best results....probably the simplest way to see what works for me. Thanks for everyones help and guidance though...much appreciated. :)
