Melbourne IT is charging $339 for Change of registrant fee still! Thank god for VentraIp.com.au who is charging only $39.95 !!!

Why are people still being ripped off in the .com.au industry so badly?? Why would anyone still overpay for the same product or service?

Dont be ripped off .....shop around people and spread the word there is competition and savings available if you look !!

I know Melbourne IT is a member here. Can you comment why your price is so high for the same thing?

Wow that is a rip off, it is funny how Ventra IP is getting a good name with random people in the community. I was talking to some one about hosting and said Ventra was a decent cost effective company and they had already hard about them and said they were doing good things in the market.

Yeh it sucks.

Would it make sense to ask a seller to push their name elsewhere before doing a COR?

Pricey indeed.

I think at that price they can't be expecting many domainers to use or recommend their services, but they probably service a different part of the market..

A company I consult for has all their domains with MelbIT and even though they know it's significantly more expensive (in the scheme of things) they are quite happy to pay the extra $ for reg/renewl fees etc. Few hundred every 2 years isn't much when you only have a handful of names.

Also FWIW, the I like the MelbIT console the best for DNS management.

FPR, go to the top of the class.
$1 for the COR, $338 for the perceived security MelbIT offers - not everyone is a domainer.

I know of 2 instances where they allowed domains under their management to expire.

Their clients were not impressed, and in one instance it cost them $2500 to get the domain back some 7 months after they noticed it had expired.

Go figure!

I have experienced first hand when they have to manually contact an office for EU renewal and it was not done.. this caused my client who had their existing marketing campaign running, quite a bit of embarrassment, as well as me who had tried to renew the domain where the funds were paid up, and someone in the MelbourneIT support area had not completed their work.

Fortunately we have our name servers and I am very glad for that. It allows us better control of the websites we manage.

Because some people (especially the type of people they have as clients) would pay it. For an organisation like that offering anything at a competitive price is probably a bad idea.

They don't want the clients who shop around for the lowest price though. It is a bit like network solutions or register.com. They won't cannibalize existing high value business by trying to compete.

If I had a business like Melbourne It I'd price in the same way. If they can charge 5 times what competitors are charging then good for them, that is a sign of a strong business.

actually it seems ventraip.com is the cheapest... its only $19.95

But this thread is about COR prices - not domain prices.

Having said that, VentraIP are the cheapest on both. $19.95 for domains; $39.95 for COR.
