What Is My Domain Worth?

The most popular question we get asked at Netfleet is also one of the trickiest to answer, yet one of the most important: What is my domain worth?

To answer this correctly, there are some key steps you can take to help value your domain:

1. Brandability

Does your domain name have the wow factor?? Will this domain represent a brand or company well in their marketing material and promotions?

2. Memorability

If you told your domain name to a friend or relative, would they remember the domain if you asked them the following week? Could they spell it correctly
too? Whilst domain names may seem clever such as CoolKidz.com.au, the very real risk is you will lose out to your correctly spelt cousin called CoolKids.com.au

3. Length

The shorter the domain name the better. Shorter domain names are easier to remember, take less time to type in to a browser, and look better on business cards,
graphics and more. Furthermore, shorter domain names command a higher value, as simply put, there are less of them. For example, there are only 676 two letter
.com.au domain names in the entire world: aa.com.au, ab.com.au, ac.com.au, and so on.

4. Keywords

Does your domain name contain valuable industry keywords? Generic domain names containing these keywords will generally make it easier to rank higher in search
engines. A killer tool that should never leave your side is the Google Keyword Tool. By plugging in a keyword, and selecting Australia (for us Aussies), will reveal the
number of monthly searches in Google for that term. Gives you a great idea of potential traffic, customers and therefore value. An example of a top quality generic
keyword domain is RealEstate.com.au – huge Google Search Volume, and does exactly what is says, real estate.

5. Comprehension

Whilst keywords in domain names are great – the domain has got to make sense. EstateReal.com.au just doesn’t cut it I’m afraid, and nor does Loan-Home.com.au

6. Backlinks, PageRank and Age

Domain names that have previously, or currently, have a website on may also come with some pleasant baggage, such as Backlinks (In Bound Links) and Google
PageRank. Traditionally, the age of a domain name adds value too – the older it is, the more valuable it may be.

7. Past Sales

After factoring in all these metrics, you can get a good idea of value, however there is nothing better than to see what similar domain names have sold for in the past. Netfleet holds an extensive list of Recent Australian Domain Sales to show you what sold and when.

8. Gauge Market Interest

So you have a rough value in mind? There is nothing better than to let the market decide its value, so why not get some offers coming in, and list your domain name
for sale, for free, at Netfleet.com.au.

There are many other factors that can help value your domain names, however I hope these simple steps can be a good starting point, and look forward to seeing you
over at Netfleet.com.au

We need a thank you button on these forums because I find this quite helpful.

I would love to know about the viability of creating websites around these pages. Not just junk sites but I have some areas of interest that I think I could contribute information / articles / something to make the site have an appeal, but wonder if it's really worth the effort.

Thank you for posting this Mark and it's official.. I really love domain names.. Not as much as my husband, kids or mountain bike riding but we're talking about some serious appreciation here!!

Again, a nice link to your own website. ;) You should give yourself credit as the author of the article.
