What to do with roadconditions.com.au

C'mon Snoopy - we're just trying to be positive and give Jason some ideas as to what he could do with roadconditions.com.au. I put up Coastal Watch as a comparison because it is a popular website that in the main reports on "surf conditions".

I think we're all agreed that he isn't going to make a fortune from it, but I'm sure he'll make a few bucks if he's half as smart as he sounds. ;)

Glass half-full stuff ................ :)

I think people need to be realistic and if the example is a site where one of the revenue stream is "donations" that is probably not a good example to follow.

Personally I think developing this name is a bad idea and for some others to be suggesting otherwise with comparisons to Google and Facebook is leading the OP down the garden path in my view.

If the glass is one 1/4 full lets call it crap, if its is half full lets call it high risk and if it is mainly full lets call it a good idea.

So do you have any 'mainly full glasses' to offer Jason & the rest of us in regards to domain names?

Yeah sure - you've made it clear what your feelings are regarding this domain name

What I want to know is in a more general sense:

"In your opinion, where are the 'mainly full glass' opportunities with regards to domain names"

PS I appreciate how difficult this is for you but we're all here for you.

hey a good idea could be some type of social site for people to talk about where bad pot holes are.

One one of my old cars I have 18 inch wheels on it, hit a pot hole due to a bad road....Destroyed the rim, the tyer and some other parts on the car...very costly..about $1000 all up...

Happens alot, heard about a Ferrari hitting a pot hole and causing 17,000 damage..

So Road Conditions fits the bill imo...

In regards to the coastal watch business,

It is not cheap to run yet it is evident they are making money and been profitable,

* Billabong has a premium placement on it via sensis media.
* Looks like a premium ad unit via adsense.

I can ask the display guys at my agency what kind of rates they charge..

Site gets decent traffic, asking for donations is a decent strategy, Ive seen sites saying "Donate to me it pays for my coffee to stay up late working" & "Buy me a beer".

Regards.

At first glance, the idea behind the name seems very unprofitable.

But, if you really want to go ahead with it, and not lose too much time and money (or if you are feeling charitable and feel it's a public service you want to offer/can do better at than the current players) then set up a very easy (and quick to install) forum or blog (like phpbb3, wordpress) and allow people to join and post info on road conditions in their area. Promote it yourself on facebook/twitter/etc. and if this is something that people will use and find useful then I guess you'll find out fairly quickly.

Good luck! :D
