I'll get straight to the point - is usocial.net just a scam?

I'd been following them for a while after they received plenty of media attention a few years back.

Last month I decided to sign up for the Facebook fan pack to boost the numbers on one of my pages.

At first they were quick to reply to emails, but after a few weeks there was no action on the page. A few emails went back and forward, and now they're completely ignoring me.

I Googled "usocial scam" and unfortauntely I found plenty of similar stories, and none of them had happy endings!

So... does anyone here have any experience with them? Is it just a scam? If so I've only lost $150 or so, but it pisses me off that a company would be so brazen, especially one that is based here in Brisbane!

I'd never heard of them until your post One. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience.

Their site doesn't resolve for me?

Usocial has been sued a few times by Facebook and Twitter, the owner was even on TV and in the press a few months ago, showing off all the money he was making.

But really the fans they sell are all junk who will give you no engagement what so ever.

Not worth it at all..

For sure. I didn't expect to get any engagement out of them though, it was purely to bump up the numbers to make one of my sites appear more "established" if that makes sense.

Oh well, it was only ever a gamble anyway, and this time I lost! :)

First time to hear about that site. I just googled its "name + scam" and saw lots of negative reviews. Sorry to hear your bad experience.

I think it's really better to work with your social media brand manually (regularly updating and engaging with your fans or followers). It's quite hard to build your social brand (without buying thousands of fans) but it's all worth it because most of your fans are targeted and interested on your updates. Social Media is all about engagement and without interaction, your social media campaign would not be successful. Just my two cents.

Looks pretty scammy to me.

If you want cheap, untargeted fans, just set up an facebook ad in Thailand, Phillipines, one of these sort of places. Each click on your ad is only 2 or 3 cents, so you can get a few hundred fans for very cheap.

I don't suggest you do it that way though, the value of the relationship you have with the user is what reaaaaly counts in the end.

Update...

usocial definitely turned out to be a scam, but on the referral of a mate I tried out fanbullet.com.

Their prices are good and the 'likes' started flowing within a day.

Yeah yeah... I know that I won't have any engagement with these likers, but as I said this is all about getting numbers, nothing else.

Curious - Is just having numbers even worth it for you? Are you seeing an increase in sales? members? clicks on ads? Anything? What is the real value in getting numbers unless those numbers result in some kind of return ?

I always have Facebook boxes positioned prominently on my lead generating sites, and my belief is that when a visitor sees that my site has 1,000+ Facebook fans they are going to feel that they are dealing with a business that is "liked" by thousands of other people and therefore must be doing something right.

The cost of acquiring the 1,000 fans is equal to the revenue generated by just one or two leads. So if the number of fans helps just one or two of my website visitors to go ahead with an enquiry, then the whole thing has paid for itself already.

I guess in some ways it's similar to your logo design. A professional looking logo might not be the reason someone goes ahead with an enquiry, but it certainly helps in making the business look more professional. I believe it's the same story with having a healthy number of likers.
