My Strategy on getting ranked well:

On-site factors
- Keyword in domain name
- Low bounce rate
- Decent avg user time on site
- Internal text links
- Smart use of header tags & italics, bold, etc.
- Related content using keywords & non-directly related keywords generated by sk tool
- Update each page of content every few weeks
- Add new pieces of content 3 times a day (on auto-pilot) + related to keywords obviously
- Have different widgets on your site i.e STICKY's (keeps visitors coming back)
- Have a forum on the website (optimized here & there)
- Have 100% of outbound links directed to very high PR websites*
- Pages viewed per avg user + other main big G analytical metrics
- Title tags, enticing meta info, alt tags
- Targetting a max of 3 keywords throughout the whole site
- Have copyright info
- Phone number, opening hours, disclaimer, privacy, etc
- Social media tools (sigh), sick of them..
- Videos with no fast forward button (user is forced to watch whole thing i.e can't skip)
- A review section of 3-5 major competitors (for the keyword(s)) & even link to them from the review section. Note that this one I've not tested but I'd like your thoughts since being a genuine website can mean being nice once in a while + you can biased some info as to prevent links being clicked - Meaning google sees your site as more relevant, ay ? Just a thought..
- Make sure content is so much as to it provides more than what a reader needs to know meaning they'll never need to check other sources since you have the other sources as references!

That all came off the top of my head, especially the last one lol. Now is there anything major or sneaky or "secret" that I'm missing regarding on-page seo ??

I'd really appreciate input, hopefully we can together a build a bigger list.. :)

*Perhaps an exception would be competitors since linking to competitors would be making the internet a more beautiful & happier place haha.. ?

Copyright info, opening hours, phone number, having a forum, video with no fast forward option etc

Can you explain how these help to achieve higher rankings?

They're indirect ways to maintain a certain class google & visitors will appreciate & trust.

The video works if you keep things interesting & can keep your readers on the site for the entire time. Time spent on page = more relevant, correct ? Google knows there's a video but what google I don't think knows is there's no fast forward button, actually they probably do but meh as long as the visitor stays to watch, big G will perceive it as relevanteee

A forum is a sticky for people & robots... right ?

Opening hours, phone number, contact address etc & copyright info are important in on-page seo because without a few of those wouldn't you seem just a lil' spammy ?

Having no fast foward would cause me to leave, not wait around. Users want quick access to relevant information.

I guess. But a forum is only as good as the people who contribute to it :)

To me this is more about user engagement and boosting trust for conversions/sales.

FirstPageResults,

Some good points, I guess depends on how tempted you are (as a visitor) to watch the video in the first place & the quality of the video, etc. By the way many professionals in the field use this video technique nowadays. Also I really do think that this alone can be much more effective than content if done right since a big contributor to google's perception of site quality is time spent on time - assuming the visitor is able to actively do something on the site equivalent to the time spent on the site, i.e 40minute video shouldn't = 2 hour stay lol.

Haha yeah in regards to forums this one can be a prime example ;)

"..about user engagement and boosting trust for conversions/sales. "
I can't disagree with you there though I'm 99.9% positive google uses these metrics as a tool for site quality.

I think the trick is to see Google as a person & not as the huge enterprise that it is. When you see google as a visitor & when you wear his/her shoes you start to think: "hey! contact info will deffinetly be of interest to me".

The secret in my opinion is this: Treat google like your target market & you're set, white-hat style.

Now hopefully we can get some more on-page seo suggestions as I'd love to build this list up.. even with things people aren't too sure of.

I think this is where Google places comes in yeah?

Hi Ash,

If you're referring to the google map with your business listed on let's say the contact page or footer (with your API) then yes, personally I'd say this is just one mini boost for SEO though.. when you add all these mini boosts they can act in a synergy.

Another example: the google +1 can never be a bad thing for SEO.

Yep, that's what I was referring to. Understand it is one piece of the puzzle. It will be interesting to see how +1 develops... I haven't been moved to +1 a site yet.

The closest thing I've done to +1 is subscribe to a few "SEO professionals" on youtube, mainly because it's like a bookmark. Anyway I couldn't of nailed every single on-site factor in regards to seo.. there must be atleast a few more opinions :)
