Hey dudes. So I was looking at my stayincooly.com website the other day (which I havn't even finished yet) and I just realised how crap it is.

So without any further garb, i present to you a new mock (no wordpress themes used here)

Looking really good Luke.

What's your reason for not using wp and have you got this on another cms, or hand coded?

I suppose you will be separating your css out once you've finished tweaking?

Correct. It's far too annoying working in seperate files this early in. :)

It's just html/css for now, but will go into ModX which is a pretty good CMF in my opinion - perfect for adding features like blogs and directories.

To answer your question about Wordpress, it's actually not that bad of a CMS. In terms of flexibility and customisability - ModX winds hands down IMO.

Put it this way, I prefer to deliver my clients with WP and myself with MODx because it can be a little more confusing to people who don't know html.

Thanks Luke.

I've toyed with ModX Evolution and was impressed at the very early stages but haven't really learned all the ins and outs with the chunks, snippets and template variables.

I've also looked at SilverStripe, CMSmadesimple and Concrete5 which all seemed pretty good but I've steered back towards wordpress because of its market dominance.

I do plan on familiarising myself with ModX Revolution (I was following the tutorials on Mary's Coding Pad when I tried it last time).

Anyhow, don't mean to hijack your thread with CMS discussion...

Nice work on the site, it's looking better than tourism queensland's own imo.

Ash.

Thanks Ash, and no worries at all! Glad to be of assistance.

Once you get the hang of it all i don't think you'll want to use Wordpress again. ;)

Do you have any of your own sites?

What made you want to change from wordpress to modx?

I believe wordpress to far better over any cms/f around. Once you understand how plugins and templates work you can create large sites with ease.

Nice design, improvement for sure. looks very ecbd-ish ;)

Some recommendations below.
  • Cooly in the logo seems a bit dull, make it yellow like the advertise button.
  • spacing between the logos up the top and nav bar seems like it should be larger.
  • Use padding in the #nav li instead on margin - makes the click area for a link larger.
  • The line height for the test seem close together, maybe make it larger.
  • A few other minor things...

I'm sure you still have work to do on it and will keep making adjustments, keep us posted on the final result.

Do you have an agreement with TQ?

Don't know if it is wise to add their logo...

Other then that the site looks good...

Thanks. :)

If Ned wants a refresh I'm happy to collaborate. My design your programming?

For any project, $100 for a mock from me ;)
