I made a site for a friend of a friend a while back. He had zero budget etc etc..

Anyway, it's been submitted to google and yahoo etc, but even after 4 months now it's not listed even when searching the domain itself.

site is http://www.ablemovers.net.au

Any idea why it's taking what seems... f o r e v e r ??

Use webmaster tools to fetch as Googlebot to check what Jonathan said, if that comes back with 200 OK status than I'd suggest you submit an article to hubpages.com (or similar site) with a backlink to the site and it should be crawled within the day.

No robots.txt so I'd be checking your htaccess file to ensure the site isn't no index.

Yeah check this, if no issues.

1. Add the website to Google webmaster tools
2. Add a Sitemap.xml
3. As said add a robots.txt file
4. Add a few links from social website, link it up via a twitter, even add it to a few directories.
5. Add more content possibly too.

If still not added into Google the domain could be banned

also you need to optimize this site for SEO, even the basics if possible.

thanks all. I have some things I can work on for them.

The little content was their idea. I asked for more content but they refused to supply.

Anyway.. thanks again.

Duplicate content issue amongst other things Lemon. While common, it's not a standard setup for any website that is well optimised.

I don't see how creating four different pages for an index page improves search engine rankings. I was under the impression that google recognises all 4 of the above examples as being the same page anyway.

I don' see multiple results in google for site index pages. In fact google tends to remove the index.html, index.php etc from the results anyway. I'm talking about the main site index not subdirectories.

Please provide some examples of your argument.

It is not advisable basic best practices of SEO, as it is duplicate content. Most CMS's now days do not run with these problems multiple index page problems.

But yes it is not a huge problem but it is worth fixing.

Obviously, your impressions are wrong but why would I need to spend time giving you an example when it's SEO 101 that you don't duplicate your content or create multiple versions of your website? It's not an argument or a position; it's fact.

http://www.webiste.com and http://website.com are treated as 2 different websites. The downsides to this are quite obvious.

thanks again guys.

The issue has been fixed. For the record there was only ever one page. Although it could be accessed 4 different ways.

I have since redirected all traffic to http://ablemovers.net.au to http://www.ablemovers.net.au & have also linked the "home" link to go to http://www.ablemovers.net.au rather than the index.html

This should have resolved the issue afaik.

I know it seems like a basic error looking at it now. But as mentioned most CMS take care of this automatically these days.. I didnt use a CMS for such a basic site.

Cheers.

4 different ways to access it makes it 4 pages.

Person A comes to your website, loves it and links to http://ablemovers.net.au/index.html
Person B comes to it, loves it as well but links to http://www.ablemovers.net.au
Person C visits, loves it and links to it with http://ablemovers.net.au
Person D arrives at your site and links to http://www.ablemovers.net.au

Google sees all 4 links to 4 different websites and your link love is split, possibly making it harder to rank. Instead of getting 4 great links the 1 domain, you now have 4 links to 4 separate sites.

I have been running my site under both www.domain.com.au and domain.com.au since inception it does not seem to have affected my link love too much
Backlinks to www.domain.com.au 20,000 +
Baclinks to domain.com.au 23

By the way which backlink checker would you recommend.
