Hello Everyone,

Thought it may be interesting to learn more about what everyone's been buying recently. I've picked up a couple in the last week as below:

christmascutouts.com.au
I was trying to find Christmas Cutouts for my lawn but couldn't find any! I now have some local manufacturers and will develop this into an online store for Christmas 2009.

huntervalleywinery.com.au
Couldn't believe my luck with this one! I'll be developing into an e-commerce store for boutique wineries. Not only one of the biggest tourism regions in Australia but also my local area. I own quite a few websites here and this will be a great addition.

portstephensbusiness.com.au
I'm developing this into an online business magazine for the Port Stephens region including local directory.

I would be interested to hear what other people have been picking up along with their plans for each.

Sounds like full steam ahead Troy, some nice pickups there and thats the best way to be starting sites/businesses, by filling the niche, sometimes things that you were looking for yourself, such as the christmas cutouts. Good luck with them mate.

Ive been quite slow in the past few months for picking up domains, been letting quite a few drop actually, just getting rid of the crap, and looking forward to developing some big websites in the next few weeks. Ill keep you all posted.

Well done Troy, I like the first one out of the 3, as soj says, fill the niche area's first.
I have been selling more than buying now, although I did buy superantispyware.com.au as it is a software in the states with 12 million users worldwide, I emailed them and they set me up as an affiliate, could not believe it was not registered, every other extention is. All I have to do is get site up and running, now how many is that now?

Hello Everyone,

It's been another couple of busy weeks both buying and developing domains. I've had some great finds in the last 2 weeks as below:

domainowners.com.au
As most readers will know I picked this up last week and am developing it into an alliance/association for Australian domainers. The term 'domain owners' has an Australian search volume of around 12,000 a month with other associated terms taking it up to around 30,000 - 50,000. In just 3 days, we took this to # 3 on Google for "domain owners".

stayat.com.au
I picked this domain up yesterday and was delighted, as I've been searching for a nationally brandable domain name to bring together all my tourism websites. I'll have an accommodation search function up on this website this weekend and plan to build it into a national accommodation booking website.

Would love to hear what everyone else has been up to.

Hi Troy,
Nice name stayat.com.au and would certainly brand well, only thing you could run into problems TM it and you will probably need some legel help to get it through.
The other good thing about the name is flow on traffic from other type ins looking for a well know accommodation site. I get some for holidaystays myself now and then.

I have picked up quite a few domains recently and some are
dalby.net.au
parkes.net.au
chillagoe.com.au
marysville.net.au great find
cardwell.net.au
wagga-wagga.com
yarra-valley.com great find
kings-canyon.com.au
hinchinbrookislandresort.com

Nice pickups guys.

domainowners is a cracker & well done getting Google resulst already! Nice geo's too Don - you certainly have a knack with them!

Troy we have stay.com.au - it's semi (very semi!) developed & we're keen to do something with it so keen to see if we can share any ideas.

We free registered this one in 2006 - probably our best pickup ever.

Very, very nice Troy!

Taking the Google approach of less is more on the homepage - can't argue with that! So you then make affiliate income for any bookings vis roamfree yeah?

Well done

Hello Net,

Thanks for your comments.

Yes, stayat.com.au is up and running and I even found myself using it over Christmas - the prices compared very well with wotif and it's much quicker and easier to use. While I'm pitching it as the accommodation search engine (using roamfee) I'll also be building a sizeable directory in the background which will bring a number of different accommodation providers together.

Stayat will be promoted on my regional tourism websites including Central Coast Accommodation and Hunter Valley Vineyards both of which performed very well over Christmas.

RoamFree has been fairly good to date, but I'm partnering with some additional suppliers in 2009 as well as bringing in my own booking system. This will result in my regional websites offering the largest number of accommodation options in their respective areas. It's all very exciting.

2009 is looking good.

Back from holidays and hope everyone had a great xmas and this new year is prosperous for all.
Couldn't help myself and registered campertrailer.net.au before xmas, has about 300,000 searches a month in Australia according to Google. Still amazes me some of the domains not registered, surely these are going to be worth a lot in years to come.
