Don't really use them because i have my own software, but i've had experience setting up WP and it looks pretty user friendly + has a good community so there are plenty of upgrade/plugins.

Having said that, i've heard that Movable Type is good for managing multiple blogs via one CP...

this is my first attempt ....... so far quite confused ?? i am having a bit more luck at wordpress ? i can at least write something ...... i did choose a theme and then after downloading to my computer and then uploading i recieved an email saying it must be reviewed ? this was the most popular one in the themes section , i dont know what i am doing ? maybe i'll work it out (doubt it) ....... oh no !!!!! and cheese me off the title comes up as 3d.com.au ....... the site address is 3-d.com.au , but i dont know how to change this yet

I just got lost at joomla

my attempted start just directs to their page 3dmail.com.au ......that's as far as i can go at this point

Hi Spacey,

I'm currently putting together a trial using Blogger at www.domainowners.com.au. The index page and a couple of others are HTML and the rest is Blogger, using the same theme set.

I've read that Wordpress is the best but I was too tight to pay Wordpress for custom themes, etc.

There are plenty of high quality FREE themes around for WP

Hello DTP,

Thanks for the links. The cost I was referring to for WP was in using the templates eg; uploading the 'free' template to WP. If I'm using WP's free web hosting for my site then I have to pay a fee to use a custom theme. Alternatively, if I download WP to my own server then I'm carrying the cost in my own hosting. For 1 or 2 sites this isn't much but if your developing over 100 then small savings can add up.

When using Blogger's free hosting it's also free to use custom themes.

I'd love to be wrong, as I think WP is better so please let me know if there's a better way.

Troy

I have to say that when I realised your site was a blogger page Troy, it instantly lost credibility to me.

Host WP on your own hosting for a very small sum, use a custom template, and in no time you have a site that is credible and extremely simple yet functional.

Paz, I'm sorry my website has lost credibility with you because it utilises Blogger for archived pages.

Don't be sorry, just realise that this will happen especially when you are creating something targetting web developers.

You upload to the wp-content/themes directory the theme you downloaded, then in the admin panel you can select that theme.

problem is cant find the 'wp-content/themes directory' i do understand what you are saying just cant find the 'wp-content/themes directy section' in the admin part , i can see a few default themes , i was even able to change the default theme ,
but it's the w-p content theme directory section where i am stuck , thanks paz i'll keep searching ????? i would find this link in the admin section under 'themes' yes ???

You need FTP access to get into this directory and upload the theme files. You then activate the theme via the admin panel.

does that mean i open an ftp account with my server ????

I may already have an ftp account .... thanks for help so far , i'll check

i opened up the ftp link , clicked on a program 'filezilla' followed the instructions .............. no success , the annoying thing is , i think i am close , but no cigar ?

I did click on the colume titled 'directory' but when the window opens up , it is blank with a small link saying index of 3/d , and a small link saying parent directory , now i dont know why but the .com.au is missing at the end of 3-d in this directory link ???? its all very confusing , because all the others that i have in this directory colume have the .com.au in the title , when i click on the parent directory , it takes me to the dating site link which is the main domian ???

I really am stumped and dont expect anyone here to understand what i am writing ( i think you have to be here to understand) but i would say if there is anyone in melbourne who could spare some time i would be very grateful !!!!! at this point i will leave my email in the hope that someone will help this bitter and twisted wreck ....... me !!!!! si_roddy@hotmail.com si _ roddy @ hotmail .com
