what are others experiences on this situation?

i'm having some interesting conversations with old clients recently, telling them that the website i built them 6 years ago needs to be demolished and totally rebuilt if they want to remain competitive on google AND with the user experience.

some say :
1) yeh ok, how much, no worries :)
2) yeh ok, HEY why does it now cost more?
3) whats wrong with it, i can still see it when i type it in
4) i thought i bought a website, why does it need changing?
5) what's a blog, what is SEO, what is a "ranking"
6) you told me i'd always rank number ONE
7) WHAT DO YOU MEAN I HAVE COMPETITORS
8) can't you JUST...., and JUST......, or JUST......
9) why do i need it working on a mobile phone??

you try to look after them and inform them of change but they just do understand.

i purchased a pillow the other day, it has a "use by date" on it

interesting concept, i wonder how we could pitch that to wesite clients.

"ok, here is your website, it will need to be thrown away and totally redone on 1/8/2016 "

hmmmmmmmmmmm

The cynical man would say you are after more work.
The trusting man would say their website needs to be improved.

Most people will fall somewhere between the two in what they believe.
