just one search but that BIG YELLOW message i think is a bad thing, is wiki about to die? this type of thing is normally from a company that is struggling, they even say it !

its a horrible pitch in my opinion, i would think they could do it with a bit more class.

It probably needs to be aggressive. A nonobtrusive message isn't going to bring in much money.

maybe it changes colour as they get more donations and it ends up being green ?

I liked the one they use to do,

Where it has the bar that came down and said, for wikipedia to keep running we need to make 20 million in donations, and every time you went back to wikipedia the bar moved up and up once more $$$ came in.

I agree the new attempt is a bit dodgy compared to past years

If Wikipedia ever REALLY needs money all they have to do is promise to make a page where they list (and maybe link) to all donors of $100+ or even $1000+ in a given year and I'm certain SEOs and marketers alike would rain money on their SERP dominating ass.

Or maybe they could auction off the top 100 donor spots each year...

Or they could just pick the top 1000 trafficked commercial pages and place classy EDM's on them, I dont see the point to fight off ads and beg for donations each year.
