Web sites using .net.au

Was asked recently before someone purchased a surplus .net.au domain from me to do a list of some of the high profile companies, organisations and web sites which use .net.au domain names.

I thought it was interesting so am also republishing it here considering some of the discussions that have been negative towards the extension. While .net.au is not be the first or most ideal choice in the .au domain name system as they don't have the natural type-in traffic or the higher recall of .com.au it is still not an impediment to running a successful web site and that there is still excellent value in purchasing generic .net.au domains cheaply on the aftermarket for people who can't afford the much higher prices of the .com.au domains.

Good list, especially since I've got a couple of .net.au's that I'm going to start developing.

Do you think the SE's favor the .com.au domain name at all?

Nice topic Anthony,
Just an email to remind those that my auction finishes this Thursday night at http://www.domaintradingpost.com.au/au-domain-name-auctions/
At present they are all starting at $60.00 + gst with no reserve. Transfer of ownership ad another $120.00 incl gst ( incl 2 years Reg ), a lot of the domains are geo's or generics.

I find the .net.au's do rank ok with my experience depending on competition for the search term.

I think a lot of people (me included) have overlooked net.au's to some extent. If you look at the actual sales, a very healthy proportion of them have been net.au. I think that this shows that end-users don't discriminate as harshly as perhaps we do.

Spacey pretty much summed it up when he said:
