I'm pretty sure this isn't new and it's been shared before, although it's just been posted on Wired.co.uk (*there's a co there, cough, cough*)... I was curious to check and wired.uk redirects to a social sharing platform po.st 
That aside, interesting to see the extensions visually:

The one thing that jumps out is number of the European countries are using single dot domain, I think someone mentioned it last week - that .uk was a good test, because it's smack in the middle of single dot domain neighbours.
