What is the going rate or the most economical way of transferring domain to my name?
I'm sure the last time I did one of these it was about $60 or so.
    These dudes want a hundy.
Isn't transfer free then you pay to have it reregistered under new name?
    What do you guys pay?

    Thanks

Just thought I should add, I've used a bunch of different registrars for transfers and most of them range from horrible to atrocious.

Drop, apart from being the cheapest, is also in my experience the fastest and most efficient.

    Guys, don't change.

I've found Intaserve to be the cheapest, fastest & easiest.

However I do get a discount on the transfer fee for having names registered there. Might not be as competitive if you are doing a one-off

Have you negotiated a Change of Registrant + Renewal fee of less than the $50 that drop are charging?
I understand if you do not wish to reveal the rate
I used to refer people to Jumba because they charged $70
Now it is a one way street all the way to www.drop.com.au
Have you read http://www.netfleet.com.au/index.php?a=faqs#19 lately ?
Perhaps sales might be encouraged by an update

If we don't pay we can't transfer.. that wont help the aftermarket either.

spacey, you know better than than to pay rack rate (MIT charge $339 btw!)!!

Yes I have mind you have probably transfered about 50 domains in last year or so so I probably get a good deal. Best thing about Intaserve is their speed & communication. Done & dusted in a couple of hours.

Yeah we probably should update. Thanks for the heads-up!

Very true. It's not that bad. UK there is a transfer fee of 10 pounds and that doesn't include any new registration period (I think) and that's a busy aftermarket.

The fee will always have to be more than $20 or so to cover the new reg. Is $30 exzcessive for a handling fee to cover the paperwork verification etc? I don't think so.

What we need is one of two things:

    1) auda to drop the automatic renewal
    2) auda to enable transfers to be done entirely electronically with no extra work for registrars

so if the UK start charging 1,000 pounds to get into the London CBD, you think Sydney or Melbourne CBD locals would welcome a $100 charge by saying it`s not that bad because it`s just $100 ?

The UK is not a great example for many things...Italy does not charge a cent for transfer just as many other developed countries.

But I better shut up as it seems I`m the only one unhappy about the AUDA policies.

    Drop charge only $49.95. www.drop.com.au

Build it in to your sale price and this way the new buyer does not know any different!

(I also agree that fees should be minimised but there is an interim solution)

I know Drop charges "only" 49.95 but that adds to my rant, if they charge "only" that, then how much money are the other companies making out of air? How much does it cost to them? (What`s the margin?)

And how much AUDA is making over this unjustified fee?
