Hi, I'm Tim and I'm new to domaining. I have savings of $21k which I am looking to invest into a few select quality domains and build mini-sites whilst I actively try to sell the domains to end-users. I will keep on eye out on the for sale threads but welcome any contact to help build my portfolio for this exciting journey!

Hello & thanks for the welcome.

I am not really stuck on any particular theme but I have decided to go safe and avoid any trademarks but am interested in technology so thought of speculating on upcoming names like '3d'-related stuff but even the stupid non-sensical 3d-names are taken...

I am looking for around 4-6 quality names that I can make sites with, not just 1000 non-sensical names :)

This is going to be a good outcoem I think :)

The only one I'd have is ebookreader.com.au which has 5400 exacts and 27100 phrase search.

It's actually a good one to set up with amazon feed as they sell most ebook readers.

If interested PM me an offer.

    Welcome Tim!

If you are new to domaining, I seriously recommend that you have a good read of this forum as well as watch the drop auctions for a couple of weeks to see people’s buying behaviour.

Because new domainers tend to buy junk early on, which ends up dropping after 2 or 4 years. And I would personally stay away from 3d. (But thats just me.)

Welcome to the forums Tim. :)

My advice would be to stick with areas that you know well or are interested in. It will give you a massive head start right from the beginning.

I'd avoid speculation too. You have a decent budget, so stick with quality. Maybe use 10% or so of your budget on speculative domains if you really want to.

    Have fun.

Welcome, shane is totally right, don,t jump in , spend time to learn, ask questions and yes.....get critisised some times.

Watch the drops, especially with 2 minutes to go, you will learn a lot.

As you have said you don,t have a sector I suggest you actually do if you think about it, keeping to what you know is best in my view.

    Welcome Tim,

I think most of what has been said is pretty good advice - definitely read as much as you can on these forums and be sure to ask lots of questions. A bit of scepticism followed up with some good questions on these forum could save you thousands of dollars and lots of time.

Most of the veteran members on these forums have learned how to make money with domains over years through trial and error of which we are happy to talk about so there is no point in repeating our same mistakes.

    ;)

Best of luck with it all - and feel free to send me a private message about the sorts of niches you are interested in - I probably have some domains you might like that I've yet to develop myself.

    Welcome Tim,

Great to hear that you're looking to focus on certain niches that you know and are familiar with, and then develop them into established websites.

This is also quite similar to what I'm doing now with my domains :)

    All the best mate!

Hi Tim - welcome. What have you been doing prior to "domaining"? And as a matter of interest, what made you make the jump?

I'm always interested in how people come to our "industry".
