Personal opinion, but I think your first release was far better. Good luck though.

The current purpose of these auctions is to fine tune our Secondary Market Auction process before opening it up to allow our customers to get involved and sell their own inventory. As this auction title suggests, these domains are merely surplus stock that we do not plan to renew. So before they go through the Expired Domain drop auction system, you simply have the opportunity to pick them up in a more controlled environment, as well as more time to analyze the domains too.

Just some background for you; I have been contacted many times by various customers asking if we can do a deal whereby they allow their domains to expire and we in turn give them a commission from the sale at the DROP auction. I won't go into the reason why we never accept such proposals, suffice to say it may appear simple and ethical on the surface - but it is not. In defence of the people forwarding such an idea, I imagine it is frustrating for our customers to make a decision to allow a domain to lapse, and then see it sell at our auctions for a couple of hundred dollars.

So soon, our members will be able to offer their surplus domains for sale and make a last effort to recoup some costs on those domain acquisitions they no longer value.

Surplus domain auctions are just one of the plans we have that will help our core customers realize better values for their investments. Over the coming weeks and months, our aim is to elevate the industry through innovative services with an aim to not just engage the wholesale market, but to also get the retail buyers into the domain game too!

A market where domainers just sell domains to other domainers will never mature. We need to get more retail buyers into our industry too.

    Best Regards
    George Pongas

PS: thanks for the response we received from the Expression Of Interest email I sent out last week. We received many valuable ideas and were very please with the level of interest.

    George,

In your opinion, what is the quickest way to develop a "Retail" market?

Hi Shaun - well it comes down a mix of main stream exposure, education, targeted PR, all while promoting and delivering trust. (sorry for the text book blah blah)

The "how" is the interesting and challenging part - and I know this was the point to your question. All I will say is that we have a few ideas, but sorry can't disclose them just yet. (competition is heating up on my side of the game so we prefer to keep some surprises up our sleeves :p )

Rod, the retail market is much bigger than the wholesale market. It is just about access and re-educating end users that buying the domain they are after for their business is not restricted to just a 'look-up' at their registrar.

It's all about the 11 secret herbs and spices to get the retail sector in on the game. Currently working through the spice rack for the answers :p

Can we call you "The Colonel" from now on George? ;)

Colonel Pongas has got a certain ring about it.

    wholesale ????

I am saying all auctions need to be advertised , so the general public start to look and eventually join in , maybe the auction sites need an introdution page for those new to the industry ? regarding spices , feel free to make an offer for my 薬味.jp (spices.jp) LOL

    cheers george !

PS: My point wasn't that the translation is off - it is spot on - but not being a native speaker makes it hard to work out subtle language issues.

spice.com.au would fetch more than condiments.com.au - both have the same meaning but one is more valuable than the other.

So which is better 薬味 or 調味料

    Anyhow - off topic.

Perhaps discussion topics over beers tonight at the Inaugural Domainer's Piss Up
