Cant see why this was posted. http://www.netfleet.com.au/blog/other-domains/why-com-is-not-king/

Its very negative about domain name investing and values and seems to be fairly inaccurate.

The fact is there is thousands of .com names sold for a profit each day and that profit is most often higher than any other form of investment on a ROI ratio ( Return on Investment).

Less high level Million dollar reported sales means people are either developing the names or hanging on to them.

It is true largely now that if you are in australia you are more likely to go to a .com.au but if you can buy the .com buy it also... its always going to be worth more if its generic.

Moral of the story is buy the .com.au and if you can get or afford the .com buy it also.

Whilst i am grateful to netfleet for their ongoing efforts , this is called 'stoking your own fire' and really does not represent the situation

There is absolutely no doubting the .com is much more liquid than .com.au on the larger scale, of course to be seen as local is great for trust and establishing a presence but our smallish population and lack of knowledge hinders out extension plus the other requirements

.......at the moment (need for abn, 6 month rule... etc)

Agree mainly, the article is largely self serving in nature as opposed to being accurate.

Less high level Million dollar reported sales means people are either developing the names or hanging on to them.

Disagree with this point though. The .com market is weaker than 2007, it is a fact. In my view it had a very big fall 50%-60%, and has probably recovered half of that.

How is it self-serving, snoopy?

The article is about .com values falling - how does that help Netfleet? Do you really think the article is going to make thousands of .com investors jump into .AU?

Even if it does convince a few to consider extentions other than .com, what are the chances that they will head for .AU? Pretty limited in my view considering AU domains would make up less than 5% of the total ccTLD domain count AND thanks to regulations there are large barriers of entry for overseas investment.
