Potential Domain Name Fraud

Hi guys hope you're all doing well! I've currently had an issue & I wonder if anyone has been through this experience before, if anyone can share advice or information about what I can do, the best way to go about it & anything else, thank you.

This is the message I sent to ICANN:
Names are replaced with an *****

To whom it may concern,

I currently have an issue which involves the registration of the domain name: home-remedies-for-acne.org using the registrar "*****".

To explain the situation:

1. I purchased the domain name home-remedies-for-acne.org via ***** & received a receipt once payment cleared on the 1st of September.

2. The domain name was not registered within 24hours of the receipt so I contacted the support team to better understand why.

3. The 24/7 customer support representative: *****, contacted me within 5 minutes responding with the following:

------------------------------

Hello,

Thank you for your email.

With regards to your domain home-remedies-for-acne.org, we have received the application and will be registered soon as possible. Please be advised.

Please don't hesitate to ask if you have further queries.

Kind Regards,

*****

4. I responded with the following within 5 minutes:

------------------------------

Thanks for the quick response *****, please let me know if it will take more than 24hours otherwise - have a great day.

Regards.

------------------------------

5. I did not receive a response, so I assumed, like most other people would - everything was fine.

6. The next day I noticed the domain was still not registered so I responded with the following:

------------------------------

Dear *****,

As stated earlier I've registered the name home-remedies-for-acne.org & paid for 10years in advance.

I am yet to see the domain registered in my account, furthermore I can see that it is still "available" therefore someone else can still register the domain.

Can you please let me know why I cannot access the domain & what I must do so that I can access it asap.

Warm regards,

Samir Sasani.

------------------------------

7. I did not receive a response.

8. This morning I woke up & checked to see if the domain is registered & in my account.. I find the domain is registered though not under my name.

After looking at the whois information I see a company called "*****" had the domain registered today even though I had paid for the domain 3days prior.

Furthermore the whois information was private.

9. Had I known ***** was not able to register the name I would have jumped to any other registrar to have the domain registered.

On the 2nd of September I even asked if it was going to take more than 24hours, please let me know, mainly because I would've registered the name with a different registrar if there was a problem.

Today I called ***** telling them about the entire situation & the customer support understood the situation & told me that I will be receiving a phone call tomorrow by the manager to better explain what's happened & what can be done.

I really wanted this domain & I was so happy when I saw it was available especially since it gets 27,100 exact match searches internationally. Immediately I went to purchase it for it to be registered in my name because of this.

Instead of it being registered in my name.. 3 days later it becomes registered in someone else's name.

I was not notified of any problems & I was led to assume everything is fine, I must emphasise that I would have gone anywhere else to register had I received a response to my question of if the name couldn't be registered within 24hours.

Furthermore I was going to use this domain to genuinely help people with acne as I was so excited to really help a huge amount of people by providing information about candida, parasites, internal blockages, immune system impairment & the correlation the latter have with acne. I was also going to build a forum on the website & I was so excited that I had found such a great name.

Please help me as I'm not sure why the name was not fairly registered in my name & I'm not sure what can be done, but please put yourself in my position & let me know what the best thing I can do is, what ***** is obliged to do & whether or not compensation can be provided. I must note that all I really want is the domain name home-remedies-for-acne.org

I will be receiving a response by the manager at ***** tomorrow but I would like to know what can be done & what ICANN thinks of the situation.

Kindest regards, a fellow world citizen & your brother,

Samir Sasani.

Now I'd most deffinetly love to receive opinions from dntrade members as I know experience can be the best form of knowledge & advice.

Hi Samir - this doesn't sound good at all.

Whilst I'm glad you posted here, I think that you would be better off posting this query on DN Forum or Namepros. Particularly as it involves an .org (and not an .au name).

Good luck.

What registrar does not register .org domains instantly from customer orders?? I would seriously reconsider using that registrar again.

I am sure you know, but in case you don't, a registrar like Godaddy will instantly register .org domains.

Also if having problems with one registrar for a particular domain, and the domain is important to you, put in an order with another registrar. In theory you should be refunded for the order which does not go through.

Was it even done through a registrar? It is usually small time resellers who don't register things instantly (or who can't do an accurate availability lookup).

What "whois" are you checking?
.orgs are crap, 27k exacts or not
And it has dashes
Multiple dashes are worse than crap and I doubt a name with so many dashes has 27k exacts anyway
A dash is NOT a space
It was a dropped name, probably caught by a drop catcher
It was first registered in 2007
Your registrar thought they could register it for you after it dropped on 3/9 or 4/9 our time
Someone beat them to it
Maybe a drop catcher although as I say it is a really crap name and you are lucky you did not reg it
Why are you even bothering with .org when you could have many premium .com.au for a song from netfleet or even reg good .com.au or .net.au?

Hi guys the registrar was crazydomains. I've got over a 100domains with these guys so I expected atleast decent service. The customer support emailed me with my refund instead of a manager calling me so I called and asked for an explanation. They said the domain was paid for before I paid which does not make sense because why was the domain available 3 days later and why was the whois also showing the domain registered exactly 3 days later.

I still have not received a response from ICANN and so I'm thinking I should let it go..

The domain was extremely valuable for what I had in my mind whether it has dashes or 5 words in it, the traffic was perfect for a friendly search optimized forum I had planned.............

Anyway I'd love suggestions though I'm sure there's not much that can be done now, lesson learnt - go to godaddy, thanks for the advice.

Thanks for your pleasant rant about .orgs. The drop catcher thing explains it and makes sense, thank you.
