those pop up subscribes on the homepage I HATE them, but this one got me

I've read the book so I am emotionally attached I guess, but I liked the simple wording of "i'll immediately send.........."

the pdf is a sales pitch for his new book, but I thought it was an interesting share for those using these methods to build email databases.

I saw a funny one the other day...

It said something like sign up for tips with an opt-in etc. and the message to close the popup said:

"Click here if you don't want more traffic and conversions."

I'm using manycontacts.com on a couple of sites. It's not to intrusive and have had a couple of subscribers.

Yet to do so, but can be synced with mailchimp

you put all your effort into building a database and then they decide to charge a silly per month fee.

i suggest you go look for the "download csv file" button.

syncing to mailchimp? i thought mail chimp had the same potential?
