Hello,

Am wondering if anyone can explain why these three applications show different numbers of backlinks?

Open Site Explorer = 1,242
Majestic = 929
Ahrefs = 379

Ahrefs in particular does not seem to be working correctly.

Kind Regards,
Alex

Ahrefs has a strong focus on freshness of a specific link profile, the database is updated every 15 minutes. Where Open Site Explorer has a slow data base and is updated some times every month, they have tried to speed it up with fresh web but from my test it is not that accurate.

My guess is some one was liking to this site with a site wide link and they took it down, then Majestic and Ahrefs have picked up the change in accordance yet OSE has not.

Very weird considering that OSE usually has the smallest link count when AHREFs and Majestic tend to have a much broader data set (which is why if you are doing a link audit, you get as much data as possible from multiple platforms).

As James said above, it is more likely that OSE hasn't filtered their database to remove links that may have been deleted.

Out of curiosity, is the numbers above external links or referring domains? If it is the former, the removal of 1 site-wide link could mean huge fluctuations in link numbers

Cheers
Michael
