Search engines and online directories attracted the lion's share of the growth - they now account for 53.7 per cent of spending, while general display advertising attracted 23.8 per cent of spending and classifieds took the remaining 23.1 per cent.

I'd be interested to know the split between search engine and directory ad revenue.

It's search vs Display that would be interesting

Display for Yahoo worldwide has taken a hammering and display in Europe is taking a hammering due to the recession.

I'd say here with our crap metrics until recently Farifax and Murdoch would have been bleeding the ar$s out of car companies etc with page refreshes etc.

Anyway good news its up and will continue for next 5 years at least here

I'd say vast majority would be search. Not many businesses pay much for online directories these days.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. There are so many free directories out there, and I can't see how many would be profitable.

Strange that they bundled the two categories together.

I'm guessing the directories refers to yellow pages online, true local etc etc. Might extend to sites such as menulog as well.
