So I've been running my daily cron job for just over a year now, officially (1 year, 1 week) so, time to share.

For the whole .au namespace, Stats are :
17th Aug, 2013 - 23rd Aug, 2014

Dropped : 453,145
Re-Registered : 54,807
Still Available : 385,855

thanks for doing the stats.

can you clarify the "Re-Registered" is it drop pickups or domains registered via drop AND new handreg later ? as i think that would be interesting.

By re-registered, I mean that it shows up on the AUDA dropping domains list where I gather the information from, and is later (any time in the future) shown as being in a registered state.

I re-run the whole database about once every 2 months in full to re-check the status of those domains.

I don't currently see any way of being able to differentiate between if someone manually registered the domain vs being caught by Drop. It is strictly a Registered, or not Registered type of affair.

Probably the more unique stat that the "purists" would be after would be the strictly .com.au stats as opposed to the whole .au name space stats mentioned above.

(Aug 17th, 2013 - Aug 26th, 2014)
.com.au Drops Not Re-Registered 343916
.com.au Currently Re-Registered 47063

Scrape the results from the drop catchers?

URL for said drop catcher results?

If it's not on a single page like on AUDA, it gets very tricky, very fast. I would be willing to give it a go if it can be done simply.

It would be an interesting metric to see, and I do grab quite a few metrics for each domain.

Perhaps I've misinterpreted the requirement, but if you where to grab the list of domains from auDA and then cross reference the caught domains by scraping the published results then you can easily figure out what was caught. The results are briefly shown every day (on a single page), so you only need to get the timing right.

I'm not so familiar with Drop to be honest. The formatting of the pages of theirs that I have seen are formatted quite weirdly but I'll have another crack and see if I can extrapolate some kind of a list from there.

They could always give me an RSS feed or something :P *hint hint*
